Divalproex sodium "I meet with a neurologist for my migraines. He put me on Depakote at bedtime. I've been on it almost 6 months now, and I am starting to have them as frequent as I used to...3 times a week. I also take Keppra and duloxetine every morning. I've been struggling for almost 20 years now. I just can't get rid of one all the way. Any hospital visit that I go to, they give me Benadryl and tramadol, even when I tell them it doesn't work for me. I've only gone to the hospital about 6 times in my life for them."

"I am suffering from migraine for the last 3 years. I tried many medicines like amitriptyline, sertraline, fluoxetine, but I still had recurring headaches. Now I am taking Divalproex 500 mg daily and it has given me amazing results. My blurred vision, memory loss, anxiety, and depression have all improved. Thank you, Divalproex."

"Into the third week, I became very depressed. I was so tired all I wanted to do was sleep. Then my lower back became so painful I could hardly sit down. I also was getting the twitches, and all my joints ached."

Divalproex sodium "I had a checkup with my neurologist to discuss migraine treatment. I’d been taking propranolol for about 4 months, and it was keeping the migraines with aura days at bay, but side effects were no good. Doc started me on 500 mg Depakote ER and told me to taper off propranolol for the next 7 days. I had a migraine the first day on Depakote, however, the pain associated with the migraine subsided rather quickly. After day one, I began to notice a definite improvement in my mood, and my head was not hurting like normal. It’s been about 30 days now, and I haven’t had any other migraines or cluster headaches. I dare say I feel normal. So far, this is the best I’ve felt in 5 years. It works for me, benefits are not having cluster headaches or migraines, and a normalized mood. This is easy to use with no major side effects so far."

"My doctor prescribed Topamax for migraine prevention, and that gave me too many awful side effects as well as doing nothing for me. He switched me to divalproex, taken twice a day. Much easier to take, with almost no side effects except being a little sleepier and finding it a little harder to focus. However, it's doing nothing for my migraines. And I had such hopes."

"I've been struggling with a continuous bi-temporal headache, diagnosed as chronic migraine. I've been taking 500 mg of divalproex sodium (Depakote ER) daily. I've taken it along with 125 mg daily of nortriptyline and 120 mg daily of verapamil, as well as a multivitamin. I haven't experienced side effects, but I also haven't seen any improvement in symptoms."

"I have had terrible headaches since I was 8 years old and nearly broke my neck in a fall from a bucking horse (over 50 years ago). My neck grew all screwed up, and I often woke up with headaches on one side of my head and behind my eyes and across my forehead. I always felt nauseated but had to put starches in my stomach to cushion the ibuprofen I was gobbling. Then I started taking 125 mg 2 times daily of Divalproex DR about a year ago. My headaches were less right away and no side effects. I'm now taking 250 mg to 750 mg 2 times, depending on the headache. Getting regular neck adjustments always enables me to reduce back to the 250 mg 2 times daily, and I hope to keep it at that level."

Divalproex sodium "This has been the most helpful migraine preventative - my migraines were becoming a full-time disability, and for the first time in a long time, I’m hopeful - my doctor added 20-30 mg of Vyvanse (stimulant - a very low dose) to suppress appetite and lethargy, and it is amazing - no appetite, no weight gain, and I’m energetically working full-time. Fingers crossed it keeps working. Try the stimulant to prevent the weight gain!"

"I have been experiencing migraines from my teens. It has peaked in middle age. After retirement, it has again started viciously, the neurologist said it is because of the pill pooping out. Tried propranolol, topiramate, etc., and even tried valproate. Finally, I tried divalproex ER 500. Within days, the migraine episodes came down, and migraines, if any, do not progress into throbbing episodes requiring triptans. Gladly, it goes away like a normal headache."

"Was given this for a mood stabilizer. As a side, I was having headaches every day constantly for 6 years previously. I had tried Aleve and Advil, and it hardly did anything. After a day or two on Divalproex, my headaches were gone. After a week, my headaches returned, so I started taking one during the day and one in the evening (500 mg) each. I will see my doctor again in a month because I still feel like I need something stronger, and there needs to be some kind of adjustment so that it lasts all day."

"I was originally prescribed Divalproex for my epilepsy, which has been incredibly effective, but came to learn years later that it’s used for migraine prevention. I have had almost 100% success with it. I can drink coffee, red wine, eat feta, MSG, dark chocolate… all the things that used to give me debilitating migraines are now safe for me to consume. Highly recommend. Bit of a brain fog as a side effect, but not terrible."

"I’ve had moderate to very severe headaches every day for 13 months. Qulipta did nothing for any of my pain. My Dr put me on divalproex sodium DR, and within a couple of weeks the pain had diminished to barely there to gone."

Divalproex sodium "Horrible! I was on it for a month and quit immediately. I have migraines with aura. My neurologist told me a secret behind closed doors because he was a cool dude. He said to get off all the crap, and once the aura comes, chug two beers and it will disappear, no aura, no headache. He swore by it, and so do I."

Divalproex sodium "Took this as preventative for migraines. I did work, but my ears started plugging up like they did using Topamax, which I lost 30% hearing, so I quit in fear of losing any more hearing."

Divalproex sodium "I've been on Depakote ER once at bedtime for only 6 weeks, and it has cut my migraines in half. Still get my normal headaches as well. Would like to give it more time to see how it works. So far, no side effects at all."
