For Allergic Reactions "I use this medicine for weather allergies and allergies to medications when I need it. It does help greatly but does not last long and my burning sensation comes back into my body and the hives start to show. However a lot of people say that this medicine makes them feel sedated. I have the complete opposite I take 1 before bed and I will not sleep."

For Allergic Reactions "I had a headache attack in June of 2023 and a seizure and had to be put in the hospital. They gave me Ativan, Benadryl, and IV Tylenol as a headache cocktail and it worked like a dream! After 5 days in the hospital, I was all better after that nasty headache."

For Urticaria "I would get so worked up with hives before an exam with my gynecologist, that I would have to cancel. One day I took a Benadryl (they usually come in 25 mg or 50 mg tablets, or in packs of two 25 mg tablets)- just 25 mg before my appointment, and it really took the edge off. I had no hives and was much more relaxed. I buy the generic brand at the Dollar Store. This is used in our house for insomnia, allergic reactions, stuffy noses, and what I had previously mentioned. It is not habit-forming, and at such low doses, it's easy to control. Just make sure you stay hydrated! One word of caution to parents with young kids or teens- there have been many cases of suicide attempts and to trip out on."

For Allergic Reactions "I took over the counter Benadryl for some minor reason and hours later I started itching all over my body. The itch was deeply intense from my scalp to my feet - a full body reaction. I started getting visible large hives and my throat and face was swelling. I went to the ER and they said it was impossible that I was allergic to Benadryl. The ER doctor was certain I was having a reaction to the pink dye in the pill. He injected me with clear liquid Benadryl to prove this to me. I immediately had a second reaction. They had to treat me with alternative medications; an injection in my bottom, prednisone to help with breathing and another green pill of some sort to take home with me. I am allergic to Benadryl."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I absolutely love Benadryl. It's works fast when I need it and relieves the symptoms enough to make me feel comfortable. It does make me sleepy so I take it at night. I do take it during the day occasionally when I know I don't have to drive anywhere."

For Allergic Reactions "Works well and is one of my to go-to antihistamines. However it is very sedating and is also not long-lasting. It would work great for someone with insomnia as a milder sleep-aid, but for my use I would say that it works, but makes you sedated."

For Allergic Rhinitis "Works better then most prescription drugs for allergies and chronic sinusitis ( I've had sinus surgery 4 times due to this), whose side effect are health threatening. I will only take at night due to the drowsiness, this drowsiness can turn into nervousness if I don't fall asleep and keeps me up all night. I do have drowsy days often with naps from sitting and just passing out. I find that if continue taking every night about the fourth I begin to have vivid and horrible nightmares. I also get drenching night sweats - the two are not always together one night I may have one or the other. I take one (1) tablet."

For Allergic Rhinitis "Dampens down allergy symptoms fast when nothing else available outside of a doctor's office or hospital will. Yes, it puts me right to sleep, so it's not my first choice for everyday seasonal allergy control, but this is the one to keep in the first aid kit for unexpected allergen encounters."

For Allergic Rhinitis "Good antihistamine. Can cause drowsiness, but it works quickly and shrinks nasal swelling better than some of the other choices. I take a newer antihistamine during the day, but this helps a ton at night when the other wears off and the pollen is still bad."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Took Benadryl when I was out of town and did not have my generic brand equate with me. I had done this twice and both times the Benadryl made me sick with diarrhea and nausea I will always stick with the equate for hay fever as I never feel sick from it."

"I get itchy skin often, and this seems to relieve it. It makes you calmer and sleepy as well, which is good, but it does cause anxiety sometimes, especially after waking up. It can be slightly addictive too. Other than that, it's been around for years and is cheap and works pretty well for a variety of allergy issues."

For Urticaria "I was diagnosed with Chronic Idopathic Angioedema in 2005. I was 8 months pregnant and woke up one morning and my face was unrecognizable. I called my Dr and they said "oh it's probably just pregnancy swelling". I am an only child so I didn't know about facial swells. My husband came home and said this is NO pregnancy swelling. This was in 2003. It continued weekly so we took pictures and took to my obgyn. He had been practicing medicine for over 30 years and never seen anything like it, I saw numerous Dr.s and was finally diagnosed. I was in the hospital and swelled up I was given over Benadryl. It took my breath away and couldn't speak. Another nurse came in and yelled at the nurse. It has 2 b given slow or its very dangerous"

"Three months ago, I began using Benadryl to help my sleep and stomach issues. Its effectiveness has been the best out of any other medication I've been prescribed. However, I am scared about its long-term use. To reduce this concern, I take a 5 ml dose for three consecutive nights and then have a night off. I hope I can maintain this routine until I have fully recovered, and my fears prove to be unfounded. I am grateful for each day that it continues to work."

For Allergic Reactions "Benadryl is the Gold Standard for allergies, anxiolysis, and sleeping aid. It works like a charm! It is not particularly fast acting, though. I usually take a half a tablet(12.5 mg) at a time and it can take up to an hour to really kick in."

For Allergic Reactions "I had been to the doctor for hives for insect bite and they told me to use Benadryl cream and medicine, but it didn't help. I used calamine lotion, and everything else I could think of even cortisone 10 extra strength it didn't help. I went to the doctor for the 2nd time they told me to use the same thing, no help at all. I was itching so bad the hives were spreading even the itching and burning sensations to my arm, ankles, burning feeling in my fingers and hives spreading to my chest. I couldn't help but scratch them sometimes that probably caused to help spread, but I couldn't help it. I went to see another doctor for the 3rd time and he prescribed Prednisone and Hydroxyzine and this is my 2nd day taking them and I see a great difference. My arms and everything clearing up and I finally could rest.. I recommend Prednisone. I give it a 10."

"I have tried hydroxyzine in the past for panic and anxiety, and it did not work for me. In fact, it always made my anxiety worse. Benadryl, on the other hand, works amazingly well. Now, it's as needed and should not be taken every day, but as a temporary panic medication, it worked very well for me."

"I have had chronic low back and hip area pain for years. Just recently, some swelling was noted on MRIs in that region. NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen...) are supposed to reduce swelling but have never helped me at all. But Benadryl helps reduce my pain. I think because it actually does reduce swelling. It also calms the anxiety that comes with pain. It settles my stomach, too, and if I am on a long bus ride, taken beforehand it prevents motion sickness. I take only 1/4 or 1/2 tablet at a time, usually only once a day when needed. Benadryl really is a wonder drug, this first-gen H1 antihistamine."
