"I am on diltiazem CD 120 from August 2011 after being diagnosed with PSVT. It controls my anxiety and SVT episodes, but I think it also has side effects that I am starting to experience now. My migraine attacks have increased now, as it is a calcium channel blocker, it also affects my joints. It causes osteoarthritis-like symptoms in my joints at the age of just 36. I want to stop this medicine, but I don't know what alternatives exist and what side effects other medicines have. My doctors have said from day one to go for radio frequency ablation, but I also have doubts about that procedure. Thanks."

"Had paroxysmal afib 5 years. Was getting worse. Was prescribed diltiazem along with metoprolol and flecainide. Horrible allergic reaction to diltiazem. Rash, red blotches, swelling, fluid retention over entire body. No effect on afib. Got off diltiazem. Took 2 months, side effects to go away. Flecainide also not helping control rhythm. Got off that. Went into persistent afib now for almost a month. Heart rate going higher and higher on metoprolol. Have increased dosage recently to 75 mg twice daily. Does not seem to be working."

"Been on it for over a year and getting worse, not better. I think it is actually making me worse, like twice as bad before I started it."

"I have SVT. Not working for me, my heart rate still zooms to 195 down to 60, and I have passed out once. Having an ablation next week, can’t wait."

"I started this medication a few days ago for SVT. I haven’t had an “episode,” but it doesn’t seem to keep my heart rate down. Still in the 90-100s even at rest. I take 120 mg every 24 hr. No concerning side effects that I’ve noticed yet, maybe increased urination? Could be unrelated, though. Very, very mild dizziness. I’ve noticed dryness in my nose, but I’m also getting over COVID. I'm not sure if this is the right med for me. If it can’t keep my HR down, I don’t see the point in taking it."
