"I took Viorele for approximately 2 years. It worked great for clearing up my cystic acne, and it did its job in preventing pregnancy; however, I’ve noticed the following for the past 2 years: -NO desire to be intimate/NO sex drive. This has hurt my relationship, as I now have sex with my fiancé only once a month, if that! -UNRULY CRAVINGS, which led to 25 lb. weight gain. Currently medically diagnosed with Binge Eating Disorder -moody, irritable, and short-tempered demeanor -increase in anxiety and depression. The only reason I continued to take Viorele was because it was completely free with my insurance, but it’s clearly not worth it. In my opinion, you should definitely consider another BC pill/method!"

"I just started using Viorele about a week ago. I have tried many birth controls in the past, and by far this is the best one. I haven't had any side effects like I have with others: no mood swings, headaches, irritability, and nausea. Hopefully, it is able to control my irregular and painful period. I'll find out in 3 weeks."

"Worst birth control ever, made me sick. I have headaches since day one, mood swings, anxious, was feeling terrible. So I found out that a lot of people taking this birth control are having the same conditions, so I stopped. The next day my headache was gone."

"I wouldn’t recommend this birth control to my worst enemy. Haven’t even been on it 2 months and have noticed severe depression and intrusive thoughts along with heightened anxiety. Also, it has made me have so much discharge that I can’t even exercise without a noise being made. The depression caused me to start getting behind in all of my college classes and has made me want to sleep 24/7. Just no. I personally am cold turkeying being off birth control for the first time in my life after this. Enough was enough."

"I liked the pill because it prevented me from getting pregnant, but I had no sex drive! Horrible, it was causing a lot of issues with my marriage. I had very strong cramps, and my periods lasted 5 days. I stopped taking it because I honestly felt dead down there."

"I loved Viorele. I switched to it after having bad side effects with 2 other pills that were 30 mg of estrogen. Viorele is amazing because I feel absolutely nothing, no nausea, have lost weight since I began taking it, no cramps, although I have been breaking out some, but it could also be due to wearing a mask. 10/10 recommend if you are coming out of a higher estrogen pill."

"I didn't like Viorele at all! Had the worst side effects! I felt nauseous the first month I took it. When I started the pill, I started having IBS symptoms! I thought I actually had it, but when I stopped taking the pill, all IBS symptoms went away! Lots of GI cramping and diarrhea no matter how clean I ate. Lastly, it ruined my sex drive. Was not interested in sex whatsoever. Highly do not recommend taking this pill!"

"I have been on Viorele for the past 4 months, and within that time, I have gained between 15-20 lbs. I have severe bouts of depression and anxiety, I have chronic migraines that have intensified in pain and occurrence, and the lowest libido I've ever experienced in my sexual history. Thank goodness my boyfriend is the amazing man he is, because I would have left me due to the irritability alone! The only plus about this pill for me is the regulation of my cycle, the clear skin, and the fact that I'm not pregnant. I have set an appointment to get back on the IUD."

"I've been taking this BC for 3 months now and just had my gyno switch brands today. I have been incredibly irritable, anxious, and depressed. I feel like I'm PMS'ing 24/7. I've also experienced some pretty painful menstrual cramping. I do not recommend this brand at all."

"I started these pills because of a very irregular period, and once I started, all my periods became regular and shorter. This pill cleared up my acne as well. The second month taking it, however, I would feel nauseous, but it went away, and it also weirdly increased my sex drive. I did gain a little bit of weight in my stomach, and my boobs grew 2 cup sizes larger. Overall, this pill works for me and helped with my period, and I would recommend it, although it works differently for everyone."

"I’ve only been on Viorele for a few months. I would recommend this brand only for period regulation. Other than that, NOTHING ELSE! When taking this birth control, I have been nothing but tired, had loss of appetite, moody, and have had the lowest sex drive EVER! Most importantly, if you have a history of depression (DO NOT TAKE). I’m going to be done with my last pack starting tomorrow. I will also be contacting my doctor for other BC methods, or I might try some natural remedies to jump-start my period. But just keep in mind, at the beginning of your period, when using this BC, your emotional and mental health will be AT AN ALL TIME HIGH! Good luck."

"I absolutely LOVE this pill! I kept having to try different types of combination pills, and they were all making me extremely hormonal/emotional and break out the worst I ever have. Finally, I’ve found the pill that works well with my body! I highly recommend it."

"Took Viorele for 2 months, and I had to stop. Started taking the pill when my period started, and my period went on for 4 weeks (medium bleeding). I also got nauseous after taking the first pack. Nausea and long bleedings stopped with the second pack. However, with the second pack, I was very moody, I had this uncontrollable anger, and being so angry made me cry so much. Planning to switch to a lower dose pill. Being off the pill for 2 weeks, I can feel the difference. Even my boyfriend notices. I feel like I am no longer angry and moody all the time."

"This Viorele brand was my knight in shining armor. The brand I was on previous to it made me so depressed. I was emotional and sad for literally no reason, so I switched to this brand. This brand is effective for me as a contraceptive, which is why I need it, and it regulates my periods. I get my period for 4-5 days, and it always started in the morning. The only issue I have is that it makes me nauseous. I’ve been on this pill for 1 1/2 years, and I still get nauseous from it. I got nauseous from the other brands I’ve been on, so I think I just have to get used to it, but this brand didn’t make me crazy hormonal, so it was the best option. My sex drive is non-existent, though. So that’s a bummer. Nausea and sex drive are the only difficulties I deal with."

"I have been on this pill for probably about 4-5 years. My experience has been overall pretty pleasant. I never noticed it affecting my mood or behavior, and I have never felt depressed due to the pill. I also never gained any weight or experienced acne. My periods last about 4 days, previously, before using the pill, they lasted much longer. I usually experience cramps and bloating the day before and the day I get my period. My cramps have always been pretty bad even before I began using birth control, so I don't think it is caused by the pill. I do recommend this pill for people who are looking to use it as a form of birth control and a way to regulate the menstrual cycle. Unfortunately, I must switch pills due to insurance coverage."

"I'm anemic and have heavy periods, so my doc suggested these would help me get my blood iron levels back up by lightening my periods. This is my second month, and it sure has done that. I've been having trouble going to bed, but when I'm out, I'm out, and I feel rested when I wake up. Maybe I have more energy from not almost bleeding to death this month. It has lowered my sex drive for sure. But I'm not complaining because I lack self-control, and my husband can take a break."

"This pill served its function, it helped my acne, periods, and, of course, prevented pregnancy. I was on this pill for over a year, and my sex drive was nonexistent. It got to a point where it took a toll on my relationships, my depression, and self-esteem. Now that I've been off the pill for about six months, my libido is slowly coming back, but it's not like it used to be."

"I’ve been taking Viorele for 4 years now (I’m 33 yrs old). Overall, I really like this pill. Before this pill, I used to take Lolo, and I went crazy with that pill (depression, suicidal thoughts, etc.). I’ve always been a very happy person, so I knew it was the pill making me crazy. Pros: When I switched to Viorele, depression went away almost right away, I started to lose weight at first, no mood swings, my periods regulated, and my skin is 10/10. Cons: zero sex drive, 1 year after starting to take it I yo-yoed and started gaining weight at a fast pace (30 lbs heavier), no kids, never been pregnant, even though I’ve been eating the same and I’m as active as I used to be. I am constantly bloated and sluggish. I’ve tried working out a little more, but it’s extra hard losing any weight at all. I decided to take a break from birth control to see my body’s natural full potential and to see if it’s the birth control or just age. I’ll keep you posted 3-4 months from now."

"This birth control saved me from acne and painful long periods. The only problem is that my sex drive is non-existent. I’m literally dead down there. I feel like a doll every time I have sex with my boyfriend because I can't stand him all over me, which it wasn’t a problem before. We’ve always been very active. Definitely quitting on this pill."

"In the time I’ve been taking this birth control pill, I’ve had a normal 3-4 day period. No acne and no noticeable weight gain. There were some negative side effects, I had a low sex drive and recently constant panic attacks. There were days when I would just be at home, and I started to cry for no reason, and I had no control over it. I would also get irritated easily, and there’d be days I just wouldn’t want to talk to my boyfriend, even though he didn’t do anything. Overall, it’s effective, but I will be switching to another brand because it seems to be affecting my relationship."

"My daughter was switched from Azurette (no side effects) to Viorelle, by the pharmacy. She's miserable. Periods are still unstable, the breakouts have stopped, but that's the only plus! Her periods last forever, she's always exhausted, looks like a zombie half the time, got sick with a cough and took a month to kick it, has no energy, no strength, gaining weight, horrible headaches and period cramps. After reading the other problems ladies have had with this pill, she will be stopping it! Thanks, ladies, for coming on here to tell your stories!"

"I’ve really liked this BC. I haven’t had any weight gain or mood swings. The few things I have experienced are trouble wearing contacts, darkening of facial skin, and a little more acne around the chin. Other than that, I can’t complain. Doctors would like me to switch from this BC to an IUD or implant due to the fact that I’m on Lamotrigine. I’m pretty nervous about that."

"I took Viorele for a single month. I have experienced the worst acne I've had in years, my depression has gotten significantly worse, my blood pressure (which is usually spot-on perfect) is frequently high, and my mood swings are horrible."

"I was prescribed this by my OBGYN for heavy bleeding. The first week it lightened my period. Then the breakthrough bleeding was a little annoying and sometimes heavy. The second month my period came. It was ultra heavy. Blood was just gushing out of control. I had huge blood clots for a whole week. I was bleeding so bad I passed out. I lost so much blood I could not go to work. I was already anemic. I had to go to the emergency room for a blood transfusion. This is the worst birth control ever. It is dangerous too."

"Haven’t had many issues with Viorele. Sometimes I accidentally skip a pill, which will cause my period to come at an earlier time, but that’s definitely my fault! My periods are much lighter, but longer than before, lasting 7-8 days. I used to have horrible back cramps on my period, but this stuff has helped tremendously! I definitely think I’m more emotional, but I feel as though that’s probably natural and not very alarming! I’ve had no issues with sex drive."
