"On Viorele, I had horrible anxiety and depression after only taking it for a couple of days. It’s been a little over a week now, and it’s already caused me anxiety attacks and problems in my relationships and abdominal cramps. It made me dizzy and feel out of it too. After 9 days, I’m already done, I can’t continue to take it."

"I have attempted this pill once before and have it another go, and I am unhappy with the side effects. I've experienced sore breasts, they have increased in size, severe dry eye, fatigue, depression, increased craving appetite for sugars and carbs than before, like I feel pregnant. I have no drive or desire to exercise or do anything. I feel like a different person :("

"Viorele was the first birth control I tried. I started it in Feb 2020, and I just switched over to Sprintec to give that one a whirl. Every single body is different, so it is so hard for you to base an opinion on what has happened to me. I hate birth control for this exact reason. It is so, so hard to find one that works for your body. Trial and error. But my sex drive is low. I work out hard 5 days a week, the bare minimum of calories I burn a day is 800, and I cannot lose a single pound on this stuff, it is so frustrating! And I have also noticed that I am very tired, and my temper is very short with my husband. I hate that birth control works differently literally on everyone, so don't let this one post stop you from trying what might be the best BC for you! You have to try for yourself. The whole reason I started with this BC was because of how good the reviews were. I need to stay off of the reviews and trust what the doctor says."

"I took this pill for a year and a half before I decided enough was enough. It cleared my face up, and I did not experience tremendous weight gain, but I lost my sex drive and became extremely moody and depressed. I was crying over everything, I was always irritated and angry at my boyfriend, and on top of that, I never wanted him to touch me. I stopped taking the pill about three weeks ago, and I cannot begin to explain the difference that I already feel. I finally feel like my bubbly, lovable self again, and it feels great."

"This is a warning! This caused a massive blood clot in the brain. She stayed in intensive care for 7 days, regular room 3 more days. They said she should be in a coma with the pressure in her brain from massive blood clots."

"This Viorele pill worked wonders for me! I even lost weight with it. The first few months taking, I did have nausea, but after the 2nd-3rd month, everything was fine. I didn’t get any sort of cramps during my period while on it. Before my period started, I would get very little cramping that felt like slight discomfort that one would feel when you have gas in your stomach, but other than that, it was great!"

"I was on this medication for over a year and had an overall great experience with this medication. Before being on the pill, I had 4-5 day-long periods that were EXTREMELY painful. I would have to pop 3-4 Midols to get out of bed! After starting Viorele, I noticed that the length of my period maybe lessened by just a day, but it was not painful! Cramps were still there but bearable. Don't have to take any pain meds for the cramps anymore. Also LOST about ten pounds, have no acne (had minimal beforehand), have a VERY regular period. The only con for this brand of BC is that I experienced regular headaches/migraines that I never used to experience before, but I was able to deal with them for the most part."

"I have been taking this BC for almost 4 months now, and it's been amazing for me. I see a lot of negativity, but everyone is different. I had been previously on several different BC pills, plus before on the Depo shot, and with all the others, I had so many issues: breakthrough bleeding, acne, depression, anxiety, loss of energy, libido, and focus, foggy type feeling. On the last birth control I took, I had severe bleeding for 3 weeks, which caused me to almost pass out several times. As soon as I finished the first pack of Viorele, my symptoms cleared up. I haven't had any issues with this pill except a little acne and gaining some cup size, but I actually lost weight with this pill, which is amazing because with all the others it was impossible. I started taking BC after I had my son and was having 3-month-long periods. This BC has regulated my periods so much, and I have increased energy, focus, and libido."

"I recently changed from Kariva to Viorele. In just three weeks, I have been constantly urinating. I got tested twice for UTI, and both came out negative. I am nauseous from this medicine and the lack of sex drive and anxiety I already feel. For the people saying that Kariva and Viorele have the same effect, as the active ingredients may be the same, the inactive ingredients are not, and it is affecting me quite differently. You can easily research the difference for more information."

"I have only been on this birth control for two weeks, and within the first day, I began experiencing cramps. I switched from my previous BC (Junel Fe) because I get very painful menstrual cramps, and Junel Fe was not getting rid of them. My OBGYN recommended Viorele to fix my cramps. I cannot even wait to find out if my period will be better because of the awful side effects I have been experiencing. I have the worst acne to the point where I couldn't look at myself in the mirror without crying, random cramping, back pains, and awful mood swings. I have already emailed my OBGYN to switch back to my previous BC, where I had no side effects. I will just suck up my cramps and take Midol and some Aleve. Do not recommend."

"I've been on Viorele for 3-4 years now and have had a somewhat okay experience with it. It has helped with my intense periods by a lot, and I don't get the infamous period pimples as often. But I have recently realized one thing that has been hurting in a more personal sense. I have been getting bad mood swings about 1-4 times a month, not just before my period either. It has been incredibly confusing, and I feel it has been hurting my relationship. I am generally more irritable and get random times ranging from a day to a few weeks of depression. I have also noticed that in the past year, once I stop taking the white pills and start on the sugar pills, my period can take almost a week to come, whereas in earlier years, if I missed for just a few hours or one day, I would start immediately. I don't know what that could mean, but I just thought it was weird. Can't get off the pill or intense periods immediately start again. Scared to try other pills that may have different or worse side effects. :/"

"I was having extremely heavy, painful periods about 2-3 weeks apart, so my doctor decided we should try a pill. I had stopped bleeding, and on day 3 of Viorele, I started bleeding again, and I’ve bled through the entire pack! I have had cramps, migraines, low sex drive, and I’m extremely irritable. This is not normal for me! I do not recommend this one!"

"I have been taking Viorele for 6 months. Everything was great up until this last month. About 2 weeks into the new pack and I had breakthrough bleeding. I haven't missed a pill ever. I thought I was pregnant, took tests negative. Went to doctors for a test, also negative. I don't want to switch again so I'm hoping this was a one-time occurrence, but it's lasted several days now, and I am not happy with it. I don't know if they changed components in it since they changed their packaging and such. Hopefully, this is not what happened as it was doing fine before."

"I have had a terrible time with birth controls, and this one was no different, except maybe the side effects were more extreme. Not only have I gained 10-20 pounds, but I have been extremely depressed and have had horrible nightmares. It took me a while to figure out that it was my BC, and I stopped immediately. My period was pretty regular, and I did not get pregnant, but the mood swings, depression, nightmares, and anxiety are unbearable. Absolutely do not recommend."

"I’ve been on Viorele for maybe two years now. Everything seemed to be fine up until the last year. My sex drive has been incredibly low, and I’ve been getting re-occurring problems down there, whether it’s BV or yeast infections, I never know. I’ve been with the same partner for almost two years, and I properly take care of my lady parts, however, I keep getting extremely irritated down there. I don’t know if this has any correlation with the pill, but despite taking antibiotics for BV, I remain having issues. I noticed this past year my sex drive plummeted. I mean, I never have the desire anymore. I am very much attracted to my partner, but no matter what, unless I’m intoxicated, I am not in the mood. Besides these two negative potential effects, I have had no other issues that I know of."

"I take Azurette and have no side effects other than breakthrough bleeding two days into a pack. My pharmacy just switched my birth control to Viorele and I decided to give it a try. The first week I had increased facial acne. Week two of the pack brought excessive emotions and gas buildup. My stomach is skinny fit looking. By lunchtime, I felt disgusting, I was burping a lot, and if you looked at my stomach, I looked as if I was pregnant and starting to show. Yesterday was the first day of the third week. Same bloating. That night, I was miserable. I looked in the mirror and I literally looked pregnant. I laid in bed on my side and brought my knees to my chest. After a minute, I felt the gas buildup release and could literally feel it move through my intestines. Today I refused to take it. No gas buildup. No bloating. I am so relaxed. I would not recommend it to anyone. I am taking my pack with me to my doctor to talk about my reactions to make sure I'm never on it again."

"Tried lots of different pills after the one I was on was discontinued, and nothing worked for me, so I stopped trying for about 3 years. When my doctor suggested the pill for acne, I said, sure, why not. This pill is one of the few I don't have spotting or crazy 3-week periods with. The only downside is that I find my cramps are 10x worse, and I have gained some weight, I've especially seen that my breasts have grown. My acne has been a lot better, and my periods are more normal, although they do last a bit longer, my mood has also been consistent. Overall, I have had a good experience and am happy to have normal, predictable periods."

"I dealt with constant bleeding for 2 years. All day, every day. Non-stop for 2 years. I was prescribed Viorele after having a horrible experience with Levora. For about 3 months, I was skeptical because my period never regulated itself, but I did have times where the bleeding stopped. However, I'd have 2-week-long periods, and they'd be HEAVY. My gynecologist insisted I keep taking it to get my body used to it. Here I am, 9 months later, and though my period is still not regulated, I have been 3 months without any bleeding. I have mild spotting about 5 days a month, but I am SO grateful for this pill. I am no longer worried about having to buy a box of tampons all the time because of constant bleeding. And also, importantly, I'm not pregnant, lol. I have had no other adverse effects. Also, my acne has cleared up 100%."

"This pill made me nauseous the first 2 months I took it. I gave it a while to kick in; after that, it works wonderfully. My acne has gone away, I do not have any weight gain, decreasing weight actually. My breasts have enlarged somewhat. Overall, it's a great pill and very effective. The only downside is I can get emotional, but that's every girl, right? ;)"

"I will be starting my third pack next week. This pill has given me pimples, my boobs have grown a cup size, but hurt all the time. I can't even jog. No real weight gain, but just general nausea, pelvic, and back pain most of the time. I will give it another month to subside...."

"I was prescribed Viorele for ovarian cyst. It's been 10 days since I started taking it, and I've had constant intense headaches, body aches/weakness, and dizziness. My mood is horrible. First time I'm taking contraceptives, and I feel so awful. Ready to drop it at this point."

"I have gained 35 lbs in the last year on this pill. My acne is the worst it has ever been, and acne medication has not helped. This pill has made my periods light, and I have no cramps, but the weight gain is crazy. No matter how hard I try, I can’t lose the weight."

"I took Viorele for about 8 months before I started turning into a hormonal monster. At the start, I had no negative side effects, and my periods were super light. However, as time went on, I began to have violent emotional episodes of anger and crying 2-3 times a month for no reason. Because my mental state is most important, I am switching from this medication. Everyone is different, though!"

"I was switched to Viorele from Azurette about 3-4 months ago. Azurette was amazing. Light periods, no cramps, no acne, no mood swings, no weight gain, and did not mess with my libido whatsoever. It worked with my body perfectly. Since I've been put on Viorele, I've had the WORST mood swings and bad depression. My boyfriend has even noticed that I never want to do anything anymore and am on the verge of crying/having anger episodes. I have not been myself since I've been on Viorele. I was on my period for literally the first 2 months of taking it. I also have had NO sex drive, which is also affecting my relationship. I know different medications affect differently to each person, but I wanted to share mine with this medication."

"Horrible starting with the very first pill: severe cramping, migraine, loose bowels, tiredness, confusion, nausea. Had to stop after taking only three pills. Been on the pill off and on since the age of 19. I'm now 43, and this is the absolute worst experience I've had with a birth control pill."
