"So I have had recurring BV for years. When I got an IUD put in, in February of this year, they basically stopped. Well, I had a case of BV pop up in the middle of last week. My doctor called in Clindesse, which I had never used before. Let me tell you, day two I was so itchy around my vulva that I couldn’t even go to work. I had to go to the store and get maximum strength Vagisil itch cream and wipes, and the relief was very minor. I was in bed for two days crying, I almost went to the hospital. It’s now day five and my legs are itching with minor vaginal itching and swelling. I don’t know if I can ever take this medication again. I’ve skipped the gym for a week because the thought of putting on leggings is making me want to cry."

Clindamycin topical "The Cleocin ovules is the only med that has no side effects and gets rid of my BV! Only issue, it gets stuck in the applicator and won't come out, so I just insert it myself laying down before going to bed."

"It’s likely that you are terrified to take this medicine just like I was, which is why I’m leaving a review. I read far too many reviews/possible side effects than was necessary. The reality is everyone’s body and reaction/lack of reaction to this medication will vary. The idea of putting cream inside me was disgusting and made me gag. You cannot feel the cream fill inside you in any way, you only feel the insertion tube. I made a much larger deal of this medication than needed. For me, there was no burning or itching when I went to the bathroom. The next morning, some cream was coming out, but this is normal. Later in the day, I had some nastiness left on the toilet paper while wiping, this is normal and exactly what it is supposed to be doing. I had zero side effects, and I’m hoping that the clindamycin wipes out the BV completely. I typically get a yeast infection every single time I take an antibiotic, so I am already expecting that to happen with this and have Flagyl on standby."

"Best med for bacterial imbalance in the vagina. It stopped the terrible smell I was getting from my pH imbalance. Just that it gave me diarrhea, stomach cramps, and a metallic taste in the mouth, but who cares about those when you have a clean vagina? Also, I stopped having pimples while on the meds. I don't know if they will come back after I stop, but hey, I love this med, it works great."

"A positive review!!! I was diagnosed with BV and was prescribed clindamycin vaginal cream for 7 days. After the first dosage, the bad odor had COMPLETELY disappeared. I had very, very, VERY mild side effects such as a small lingering headache and maybe some constipation (might actually be due to my diet more so than the med). Also had some mild cramping. But that's it! I experienced no itching or burning or any diarrhea (knock on wood) while on this med. I took my last dosage the night prior to writing this, still no bad odor or any major side effects. I'd highly recommend this medicine if you're not a pill person or if you're sensitive to flagyl. With insurance, I only had to pay $10 for the cream. I gave it 9/10 because using the applicator can be messy if you're not careful or take your time with it. And the cream is less convenient than taking an antibiotic pill, but so far it's been absolutely worth it!!"

"This was by far the most horrendous experience I have encountered with any medication to date. I went to the ER for pain, fever, nausea, and diarrhea. They thought I had the flu. Since we are in the midst of a deadly flu season and currently pregnant, I freaked out. My second thought was listeria. After several days terrified of food poisoning and feeling on the brink of death, my provider mercifully took me off this. If my life depended on this drug to survive, I would have to seriously debate whether to take it or not. Seek other options if available."

"LISTEN. It's 4 a.m. & I'm wide awake because my va jayjay is itching up a storm!!!!! I'm on day 2 of this & already over it. The only good thing about it is the smell is now nonexistent... for now. But, I can't take this itching/burning sensation. It's beyond me! I just wanna know why my doctor prescribed this cream to me, this is awful!"

"Have had BV on and off for three years now. Extremely frustrating. The Flagyl/Metro pill caused me extreme vaginal discomfort. In comparison, the cream is much more comfortable, but it has side effects. I have pelvic aches, the first night I inserted a full dose, but due to the aching, I took a night off and inserted a half dose. Symptoms better, BV discharge is gone, but I plan on inserting a half dose every other night until I run out. Be sure to load up on probiotics, or a yeast infection will be inevitable."

"I have never had BV before in my life, now that I had it once, I get it every couple of months. I have done the Metrogel before many times. 7 days to only have a raging thrush afterward. My doctor finally prescribed me this as I just had a hysterectomy and had everything removed minus ovaries, and I'm left with a vaginal cuff that isn't healing well. Once my stitches were gone, she gave me this after Flagyl didn't work either. This time around, I have stayed heavy on my probiotics, I took 5-day cream and took my Diflucan on day 3. I have had zero issues with burning. Only achiness the first few days, which I get from BV. I'm 7 days post-meds and it feels great. Really thinking it worked."

"Have been on it since April. Did the 14 days, then twice a week, now once a week and hope to be done in October. Had my gynecologist paid attention to me, it wouldn't have been so bad. The specialist had to first rule out any cancer as I had uterine cancer surgery in the summer of 2012. It was bacterial, and I'm getting tired of 'still recovering.' For the person who said the ovule gets stuck in the applicator, I reread the directions the first time I used it, and it said you can use your finger. Much easier."

"So. I had been treating as a yeast infection for well over a year when my gyno appt. revealed otherwise. So far day 3 of 7. Only a small amount of itching. Few cramps and slight burning today. But all minor. I tried metrogel last year, and that is what did not work for me. Gave me horrible pain and a raging yeast infection the next day. But it says that these creams give you a yeast infection. It is an antibiotic. I always get them just looking at antibiotics. So if things change for the worse, I'll update. Otherwise, I expect a good outcome."

Clindamycin topical "If you get the ovule three-day treatment, it stays inside of you and is just as effective, if not more, compared with the 7-day cream treatment. I just finished a three-day ovule treatment for the first time trying clindamycin for BV, and the side effects are so much less intense than metronidazole. People talk about a burning, but it goes away after the first day for the most part. People also might find it important to know that with the three-day ovule, 30 percent of the medicine is absorbed systemically, while the cream 7-day treatment, only 5 percent is absorbed. So it’s important to weigh the pros and cons. Do you want to get it over with and resolved in three days and possibly have more side effects, or use it every day for 7 days? Keep in mind that is twice the amount of time, I personally didn’t find many noticeable side effects from the ovule. I think because compared with metronidazole, Cleocin is a walk in the park. Can’t believe I used metronidazole for so many years."

"So I was diagnosed with BV (bacterial vaginitis), and I started on Flagyl, then my doctor prescribed me the clindamycin cream. Everything was going fine: no smell, no discharge, no problems until after the last day I took it. Then the itching and burning were terrible. I was constantly running to the bathroom because my vagina was on fire, it’s sensitive to the touch and irritable. These aren’t even the symptoms I had before starting the medicine. I called my doctor to have a follow-up appointment, hopefully everything’s gone, and it’s just a side effect, but that itching and burning were like nothing I experienced before. It has my anxiety through the roof!"

"I am on the vaginal ovule. This is my second time around. The first one didn't treat it. One of the side effects is that it causes your monthly cycle to mess up. The ovule triggered my cycle to start a week early, so I started on the second day. I don't think I got the full effect of the first pack. I don't like the terrible burning sensation they cause either."

"I took Clindamycin vaginal cream (2%) for 4 nights after discovering I had a mild case of BV. I only took 4 nights because the doctor said I could either do 3 nights or 7 nights. I opted for 3 + 1 for good measure. I'm a week past the last dose and have no signs of any infection remaining (no discharge, no smell). I had sex with my hubby a few times over the weekend (had to make up for lost time) and still no issues. I've been checking my pH and all looks good. Of course, it goes up after sex, but it comes back down. As far as side effects, I had the mildest amount of pelvic cramping. Barely noticeable. No burning, no itching, no yeast infection. I increased my usual dose of probiotics and yogurt intake to try and balance out the good bacteria. I would highly recommend this treatment for mild BV. The cost was $88 with insurance, so definitely pricey."

"I used the clindamycin. After day two, my symptoms were very minimal. I am only hoping it will get better. I gave this product 8 out of 10 because of unease of use. The ovule would stick in the dispenser, so I would have to keep trying over and over, which was frustrating. Overall, it is good."

Clindamycin topical "I get BV several times a year, usually after a beach/hot tub vacation. Cleocin Ovules are the only Rx that quickly and reliably work for me vs. the 7-day cream of the same, which is messy, longer use, and less effective. Up until this year, I have always been able to use a mfg coupon. Now that’s no longer available. Still, with my insurance, it is *only* $70 per script, which is worth it. Bring back the coupon, pls."

"I got my first case of BV and was prescribed clindamycin cream for five nights. It did nothing to treat the infection. It caused me even worse pain, burning, and spread the infection so I contracted a UTI. On to Macrobid now for that. The cream is messy, stings, and dries everything out. I still tested positive for BV after the cream, so was switched to oral Flagyl. Flagyl took the burning away within 12 hours. I should have gone with Flagyl the first time around."

"Okay. I went to urgent care a few days ago basically with burning and itching down there. The doctor said it could be a yeast infection or BV (which annoyed me because why aren’t you sure), so she gave me the yeast one-time pill and the BV cream. I was so scared because this is the first time dealing with something like this! ALL BECAUSE OF AMOXICILLIN!! Anyway, so I've been using the cream for 3 days so far, and I was prescribed it for 5 days. It’s honestly less itching and burning, BUT I still feel a tad itchy at times. It is VERY annoying. But I’m also not completely done with the dose, so we’ll see. The only thing I hate right now is how I can’t have sex for two weeks HAAHA."

Clindamycin topical "I was prescribed Clindesse to treat BV. Over the last couple of years, I've been dealing with recurring BV. Up until this prescription, I've always been prescribed Flagyl. Apparently, my body has become immune to it, so my doctor wanted me to try this. It worked to treat the BV. The BV was completely gone in 2 days. However, I am now dealing with one of the WORST yeast infections I've ever had in my life. I've taken 2 doses of Diflucan, and it's not going anywhere. Attempting a Monistat 1-day cream tonight. I will never use this medication again!"

Clindamycin topical "I have always taken metronidazole gel for BV over my lifetime but suffered many intolerable side effects. My doctor agrees that I may have some sort of intolerance for metronidazole because it makes me very sick and suicidal. The depression and anxiety always set in day two of the treatment and subside when treatment ends. This most recent case of BV I had enough and asked for Cleocin ovules (the three-day treatment). I am on day two, and my infection seems to be gone, and I also have noticed not many side effects. It does not affect me mentally, and the only side effects are burning upon application and some headaches and a bit of tiredness. I have not experienced diarrhea or stomach pain as some people have noted, and it doesn’t cause anxiety or worsening of mental health. I will continue to ask for this instead of metronidazole. Please give it a try if you are fed up with metronidazole. This is a great alternative. Of note, my insurance did not cover it."

"My doctor prescribed me this medication to treat my BV. I was experiencing some odor and very little discharge. He prescribed me the 3-day dose and was surprised that it only came with one syringe. Day one of insertion was horrible, the syringe is not quite handy as the pill would get stuck in the syringe. After finally inserting the dose, I felt as if burning acid had been inserted into my vagina. It was horrible, the burning did not stop until 10 minutes later, which felt like an eternity. The second night of insertion, there was still a burning sensation but somewhat bearable compared to the first night. The third night was back to the burning acid feeling, but so bad that I almost wanted to head into the hospital. I do not recommend this med!"

"So it started a few months ago, thought it was a yeast infection, so I decided to treat it as such. About a week after I thought it was gone, symptoms flared back up. Went to the doc, and she prescribed clindamycin cream for 7 days. Didn't work, went back a few weeks later, and she gave me the same thing. Didn't work. That was about a month ago, and my symptoms come and go. Any advice?"

"Yes, it’s messy. Yes, it’s annoying. But it works. I have been prescribed the metronidazole pills, which are more convenient but make me sick to my stomach at times and dry my vagina out. I also have tried Metro Gel, which gave me a yeast infection so bad I could have baked a loaf of bread! The clindamycin cream leaves my vag moist and clear of infection or odor that doesn’t return. You have to use it properly, and it will work."
