Capsagel Maximum Strength (capsaicin) for Pain "I have Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in my left wrist and have been taking methotrexate for a year. I have been using capsicium cream for a couple of months, a very small amount rubbed into the effected area and can’t believe the response.... it’s great, I get a slight burning sensation a couple of hours after I put the cream on but otherwise no pain from the cream. My specialist said to reduce from 20mg methotrexate a week down to 10 but this week I am going to rely solely on the cream and see what happens.....so far so good"

For Osteoarthritis "I used capsaicin for relief of neck pain (eventually resolved by surgery) & now for very painful arthritic knees. It was very effective for the neck pain AFTER i slowly built up to effective dose. Currently trying to reach therapeutic level for knees -- slow going due to hot weather & sweating. Capsaicin can cause very bad burning pain if it gets wet during bathing or sweating before one has built tolerance. In fact, i swore off it twice due to agonizing burning before learning to manage the early months of use much more carefully & start low & slow (as I'm doing now with knees). However it's a great pain treatment once you learn to use it carefully & build tolerance. Wash hands twice or use gloves to avoid possible eye contact!"

Capzasin (capsaicin) for Postherpetic Neuralgia "I beg to differ, the negative results others are getting is from wrong application. Apply a thin coating only, and it will work great; gradually applying more a little at a time. This has been a lifesaver for me, as I am suffering from shingles and this has given me much needed relief. ALERT! Wear gloves or use paper towel to apply or it will burn your hands, and always wash hands thoroughly afterwards. It will heat up a little, but won’t last ."

Zostrix (capsaicin) for Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy "Tried it for foot pain, diabetic neuropathy, terrible results. Pain increased, had to wash it off. Wash your hands very well after use, even if you don't see the cream on your hands, some residue may still exist and if you get it in your eyes, it will really burn."

For Peripheral Neuropathy "This works for nerve pain, but is waaay stronger than Bengay, Tiger Balm & the sort. Honestly, this should have a more serious alert on the bottle. My dr had me start nerve de-senitizing-i think its called. I have two types of nerve pain & the pain can get real ugly. I used a brush on my hamstrings and adductors to "densitize". I was still just going crazy in pain, meditated-well tried. Prayed & am now suffering the consequences of putting Capzasin HP on my Scrubbed legs...maybe 30 min past the scrubbing. Honestly, this pain rivals my nerve pain-awful close anyway. Good product, but BE careful, w/kids, pets, older folks & especially people in crazy pain undertreated by a propaganda driven war on pain medicine & the Pain Drs."

Capzasin-P (capsaicin) for Pain "I used Capzasin hp creme on my ankle and knee after a hard days work. This creme has me on fire, and there is no relief. I tried washing it off, and it only made it worse. I have redness, swelling and feel like my skin is on fire! And there is no relief! I do not recommend anyone to use this creme. It only causes more pain!"

Capzasin-HP (capsaicin) for Osteoarthritis "When I lay in bed with osteoarthritis pain and nerve pain...this tends to give a warming sensation to a bit burning which takes my mind off the nerve pain and after a bit (and with my pain meds) I can fall asleep. If you like hot showers in the morning it may warm up a bit while in the hot shower. I wont live without it. I only use it at bed time and when the pain is to great to fall asleep."

"It does produce a burning sensation the first two weeks. After that it is a gentle warming sensation and really eases the pain in my back injury. It is absolutely worth putting up with the initial burning sensation."

Capzasin-HP (capsaicin) for Postherpetic Neuralgia "I have had shingles for the past month. I read that Capzasin HP would help the pain after the shingles were healed. Last night I put it on my body from the front, side and back. Instantly it started to burn but I thought the pain would go away in a few minutes. However, the pain intensified and within ten minutes I couldn't tolerate the painfulness of the Capzasin HP on my skin. The whole area was swollen and a bright red rash had developed. I got in the shower and repeatedly wash the whole area with soap and lukewarm water. Then I applied a cold compress to the areas and received some relief. When I went to bed, it felt like I had a heating pad under me. I would not recommend Capzasin HP to anyone with shingles."

Zostrix (capsaicin) for Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy "It was prescribed for hot Burning painful feet. I tried it several times trying to get used to it. Every time I used it it would cause extreme pain in the feet. My feet would turn red like it had been in a fire. And Woodburn like it had been in a fire. I could not get used to that pain and it didn't seem to be working anyway. I finally stopped it and threw the rest of it out."

For Pain "I used this for the first time last night and within one minute my skin felt like I had lit it on fire! I followed the directions on the box to remove it but I suffered for hours. My skin looked like I had sun poisoning. I almost made a trip to the ER. Today my skin is still very tender. I made a bad situation much worse. Never, ever AGAIN!"

For Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy "I used it for arthritis in my foot, when I first used it I felt like someone set my foot on fire and water and the sun will bring the heat back, it burns for at least 30 mins but after it stops I end up able to walk. It feels like a deep deep tissue massage. I cried but I still use it because it helps me after the burning stops , but don't touch it because it stays on you for a day or so and if you touch your eyes you will burn."

Capsin (capsaicin) for Pain "I had a muscular injury to my leg. I rubbed on the ointment and the "slight burning" the packaging warn of was a horrible burning that I could not remove with repeated washing with soap and water. The intense burning sensation went on for a few hours. "

For Postherpetic Neuralgia "I have had shingles and now some PHN pain. If you use capsaicin too early on the rash it will not be effective (and burn intensely). I used a lidocaine cream on the rash until it healed and then I started using capsaicin when I could tolerate it on my skin. If you can push through the initial burning at application, it does effectively work on the nerve pain. But I would not try it until the rash and skin sensitivity has healed first. Use lidocaine for shingles, capsaicin for PHN nerve pain."

For Pain "The effect takes a few hours to build and it will be intense but thats the mechanism. It breaks the pain signal cycle and distracts from other pain. Fantastic for muscle pain, spasms, nerve pain and chronic pain, arthritis, spine related pain, once you learn how to use it. The pain feels like bad sunburn but it is harmless if you don't show an allergy, grin and bear it because it will retrain you body's pain receptors to dampen down other pains even after finished using."

The burning sensation is unbearable. Feels like my toes are roasting on a fire. This cream should be sold by prescription only so the patient is definitely warned about the burning sensation"

For Pain "I just found out about Capzasin today and tried it for the first time for my fibromyalgia. I have OTC .025% and while I have only been using it a few hours I am so excited to have found it. The burning sensation is mild compared to my pain and doesn't bother me in the least. I tried it on one thigh to start and make sure it didn't bother me too much. I had so much relief in the one leg I couldn't wait to use it on the other. My only complaint is the smell. It has a strong scent of menthol. I am in most pain at night when trying to sleep so I think I will use it then. I did read that showering can be uncomfortable but also that a milk compress helps."
