"Candesartan has been a godsend for me. I was diagnosed with chronic migraine and went through about five different preventatives before being prescribed candesartan. I have now been on 16 mg daily for about a year and a half, and life feels worth living again. Although I do still get the occasional migraine, they have definitely reduced in frequency and severity. The only side effect I’ve had the whole time is lightheadedness, but I will take that any day over a migraine."

"The first night I was prescribed the medication for chronic migraines, I was a little apprehensive as I was started on an 8 mg dose, so I cut one in half and thought if I feel okay tomorrow, I will go ahead with the full 8 mg. It has honestly changed the way I can operate through the day. I have had no migraine or headache from the first 4 mg I took. I am thinking clearer and not forgetting to do things like I was before. The only other thing I can say is thank God for this medication. I was just that sick of every day head pain, which interfered with every single thing I was doing through the day. :) All the best to everyone. In Australia, the medication is on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) for pensioners, so I pay $5.90 per month."

"Been on them for about 5 months now, and I was having 2-3 migraines every week, which basically stopped me from living my life. I've since had 1 in the past 5 months. I get the odd headache and frequent infections, but compared to 3 migraines a week, it's nothing. Honestly, my migraines were so bad that I was getting one straight after another. Sometimes I would be in bed for weeks, and now I'm out all the time, going places, spending time with my family. My life has completely changed."

"I actually started taking this for high BP (which is unrelated to the headaches as I have been getting them since I was a teen, before I ever had high BP. I am in my late 20s now). I noticed in the last year I have rarely been getting migraines (and when I do, they are so mild I can ignore them when I get them every fortnight. I started 8 mg Candesartan a year ago. A few months ago (Jan 2022), it was increased to 16 mg, and I haven't had even a mild headache since! Remarkable. (And my BP is still a bit high...so definitely unrelated). I didn't realize it was the Candesartan until I stumbled across the info on Reddit of it being used for migraines. Thank you, Candesartan."

"This has been a godsend for me. I’ve suffered from crippling migraines for about 10 years, which had escalated in frequency to the point where I was having headache days for half of the month. This was despite my trying a number of different preventative drugs, most of which I found had side effects I couldn’t tolerate. I started taking Candesartan two months ago; initially 4 mg for two weeks, then building up to 8 mg. I’ve not had a single migraine since I’ve been taking the higher dose. That’s completely unheard of for me. Side effects are minimal; it has dropped my blood pressure, and I have to be careful sometimes when standing very suddenly as I can feel a bit dizzy, but I’m aware of that and it’s not severe enough to cause problems. So happy to have been prescribed this medication as it’s changed my life."

"I started on 2 mg in June, gradually increasing to 8 mg daily at the present time. In this time, the pain from the migraines has almost stopped, which is great, but I am still getting visual disturbances and some vertigo. Although I am grateful that this has helped, I am now feeling unwell, so tired, and just not myself. I'm waiting to see the doctor to check if it could be the candesartan, hopefully not, as I don't want to go back to square one!!!"

"I have severe aura migraine, so I get a prescription from my doctor, Candesartan, beginning with 8 mg up to 32 mg. When on Candesartan, I have more aura (zigzag) attacks than before using Candesartan, so I started to back the medication from 32 mg to 8 mg, and now I take no drug for migraine prevention. My doctor said: Try Topamax instead, to see if this can help instead! I really don't know if it's worth it, but has anyone used Candesartan and then went to Topamax and got reduced aura migraine? It would help me to know from anyone's experience. Also, I tested taking ibuprofen under an aura (zigzag) attack, and 10 minutes later, I have two auras at the same time instead! No ibuprofen for me. Thanks in advance. Bob"

"Took candesartan for 1 month. Had a dull headache every day. Felt out of it and couldn’t focus. Developed lower back pain and sporadic ringing in ears. Only thing that improved was my rhinitis (blocked nose) cleared up, and my breathing felt deeper and less shallow. Was absolutely no use for migraine prophylactic."

"I was prescribed Candesartan 8 mg for migraine prevention. I tried for a little over one month, but unfortunately, in my case, it didn't help. The attacks remained just as frequent (>15 a month). Maybe the intensity of the attacks was a little reduced, but not considerably. I could not go on a higher dose because my blood pressure tends to be low at times. For this reason, I was often feeling weak and dizzy when standing up. Other than this, I had no side effects."

"I've had aura migraines since I was 10 (I’m now 25), and they have gotten increasingly worse. So much so, I developed anxiety when I was 18 at the fear of getting them, affecting my everyday life. I was prescribed 20 mg Amitriptyline at 21, which I was on for 4 years. I found it helped with the anxiety but didn’t stop the attacks I was getting. Last summer, my migraines spiked from 1 or 2 every other month to 5 in 3 weeks, and I was prescribed 8 mg Candesartan, as I was confused as to why I was even taking a drug if it weren’t helping the core issue. From then until a month ago, my migraines have actually increased! Recently, I’ve had one every week for the past 3 months. I’ve now been jumped to 32 mg, and I’m nervous about the results! Fingers crossed it’ll reduce, otherwise, it’s back to the brain fog of Amitriptyline!"

"Initially 4 mg seemed effective at preventing migraines, but within about 6 months, the effects seemed to wear off. I went up to 8 mg, and the same pattern repeated, but overall I think I have slightly fewer migraines than before I started taking it. Compared to other preventatives I’ve tried, the side effects are mild."

"I'm a 41-year-old male who had suffered with 20 years of horrific migraines with increasing use of triptans up to 12/month. After 6 months of 12 mg, I have only taken 3 triptans as I have been practically migraine-free. This drug totally changed my life, I wish I had found it years ago. Had 2 or 3 days of lightheadedness when starting out, but this went away. I've also had a mild upper respiratory tract cough, which I'm suspicious is a side effect, even though studies show that it shouldn't be. Also reduced my blood pressure from 135/90 to 120/78."

"I have been on Candesartan 16 mg for a few months now to help my migraines. After trying many medications, this has been the best so far. But I have been left with low BP. I'm a heart patient and had a brain tumor removed too."

"I am a migraineur from my 7th. The triptans were a game changer for me. They still always work. I still have a lot of headaches that would have resulted in migraines if it weren't for the triptans. I know I can manage fairly well with paracetamol and codeine, and when it gets worse, I take triptan about once or twice a week. I was advised to try Candesartan. I used 4 mg (tried 8 mg too) for one year. I am keeping a statistically graphed diary in Excel so I could fairly well monitor the efficacy of Candesartan. It worked for what I call 'being migraneous' (nagging not coming through headache). So, quality of life went up a bit but not enough to keep taking it. When taking it before exercise, I became very dizzy because of low blood pressure, so I took it before sleeping."

"I have been taking 16 mg of Candesartan for the past 2 years, and now I only experience a migraine approximately every 3 months. Candesartan and Apo brand names are most effective for me. I have found that other brands of Candesartan do not work as well, and pharmacists suggest that those brands may contain fillers that do not agree with me and cause mild episodic headaches."

"I have had migraines since age 11, they slowly got worse over the years. I have just started Candesartan 4 mg, feel really dizzy, but hopefully, they will help. I have tried every tablet under the sun. Propranolol had no side effects but wore off and ended up on higher doses, which made me feel ill. Fingers crossed for this one."

"I have very bad chronic migraine issues for more than a year. My neurologist changed my medication every few months because nothing actually helps to stop getting attacked. Recently, I had a very bad experience with topiramate, so I have been given Candesartan 4 mg as a beginner. I don't know, after taking only 1 dose, I got another headache attack, and my left eye is also so painful. I'm also feeling abdominal pain and sweating badly. I don't know if this medication is going to help to stop getting attacked or let me down again like other medicines. Feeling hopeless, honestly."

"Candesartan 8 mg a day to help control migraine with various triggers. It has reduced my weekly migraines to 1 or 2 hormone-triggered ones a month. No side effects for me, luckily."

"Neurologist prescribed candesartan for daily complex migraine aura. GP tried triptans, which didn’t work. Suggested 3 ibuprofen, which didn’t stop migraines but gave 3 hours of relief. So neurologist suggested taking blood pressure tablets. I had normal blood pressure overall, but the neurologist thought I might be having blood pressure spikes. Given candesartan, told it had the least side effects. Started on 2 mg, and the dose gradually increased to 16 mg after regular bloods. Quickly, migraines became less frequent, less intense, and aura symptoms slower. Once on 16 mg, migraines virtually stopped, maybe 1 or 2 a month, and easily stopped dead with ibuprofen. For me, candesartan was a miracle migraine cure. Side effects: nasal congestion, sore throat, raspy voice, bit lightheaded. Took for 2 years, and then started getting terrible neck pain, arm pain, leg pain so bad walking was hard. Stopped candesartan, all pain stopped 3 days later, and sinuses/throat back to normal. Migraines still okay."
