"I have been addicted to heroin for 5 years and opioid pain pills for 26 years. Now since starting and continuing the Subutex for a little over 6 months, I really feel like with the care I receive from my doctor, medicine, intake meetings, and my counselor that I'm headed in the right direction for the first time in years. Thank you all for your comments as well because you all are one of the big factors in me starting Subutex in the first place. I can honestly say, hey, I know how y'all feel!!! God bless you all, keep your heads held high 'cause you're worth it!!"

"I would agree this medicine does nothing good for your teeth. I have had perfect teeth most of my life, and I have been on this medicine for 11 years. At age 61, most of my back teeth are broken, and I have to have them repaired, which is extremely costly. It worked wonders in the beginning for withdrawal and depression, like unreal. That being said, I still take it, and I am contemplating whether or not I will continue."

"Will it took me off the streets and allowed me to live a normal working man's life. I still don't use. Just have a good sub. My doctor knows his shit. I feel the post about the teeth deterioration. Been on 2 yrs. They got bad. Methadone was worse."

"I started taking heroin in 1998. I was then put on a methadone program in 2004, and at the time I thought that would be all my problems solved. But when you are on methadone, you tend to still use heroin because you know you've got your methadone to fall back on. So I started Subutex 8mg 1 month ago and have never used heroin because there are no withdrawals at all."

"I commend everyone on here for wanting to change their lives from the misery of opiate addiction or just plain addiction. I think Subutex and Suboxone are great when you detox off other heavy opiates or use them for maintenance for a short period of time-no longer than 5-6 months. Because this is a very powerful medicine too, I am saying this because I want everybody to know that this medication will take away all your dope sickness, and then when you're done with the subs, you're good with no withdrawal from that. That is certainly not the case. More evidence is coming out when on subs for over 1/1 and a half years. It is much harder to get off these drugs than your D.O.C. But they do help you break that vicious addiction cycle. Good luck to you all."

"I've been on Suboxone/Subutex off and on for the past 4 years. I would definitely say that these medicines are helpful, as far as preventing withdrawal and decreasing cravings. (No more daily drug seeking-such a relief:). However, it's been my experience that you can find yourself in another inappropriate relationship with these drugs if you aren't careful and really committed to your goal in recovery. It is imperative that we have strong support systems (family, friends, meetings, therapists) along with this medication. I was pretty much on my own, increasing my dosage and landed back in detox. Just started treatment again, along with people that I'm accountable to, and things are good. Stay aware and you can do it!"

"There's no such thing as a miracle cure for opiate addiction, however, when Subutex is taken as directed, withdrawal symptoms can be avoided completely and set you on your way to a drug-free lifestyle."

"My son is on it. He needed it for the pain-relieving aspect as much as withdrawals from OxyContin, which his doctor cut him off of cold turkey. Lousy thing to do. He needs something for extreme pain. Had to find a certified doctor to get it. It works great."

"The first time I took this, it threw me into massive withdrawal, which was unbearable for about 24 hours because I still had opiates in my system. So I never went near it again for years. Now, I am taking 8 mg a day for the last 6 months. I will always put this medicine on a pedestal because if you want to change your lifestyle and be drug-free, this will definitely help you achieve your goal. SUBUTEX - I cannot sing its praises enough, and that's coming from someone who would not even consider it at one stage."

"I have been on 12 mls of methadone for over a year, so I give Subutex a go. The first day I had 4 mg and felt okay, not great, but better than I expected. Day 2: 6 mg. I feel rough as hell, I want to cry all the time, and it feels like I'm crawling out of my skin. Day 3: still feel bad. Does anyone know how long this will last? My keyworker keeps saying I should not be worried, but I know how I feel bad."

"Subutex has changed my life. It's improved the quality of my life and family. I am able to function on a daily basis and be the mother my two beautiful boys deserve. I had a reaction to the generic buprenorphine (GI, abdominal pain). I am very upset that you will no longer be making the brand name Subutex, as this has had a huge impact on the quality of my life. I'm hoping the other generic buprenorphine will work out for me."

"This drug has done wonders for me to lead a normal life. Like some, I was treated with high-powered drugs, OxyContin, fentanyl, and all the others for back pain. None of the high, and most of the benefits for my back pain. Wonderful for coming off of other opiates with proper medical supervision."

"I started taking Subutex in 2008 after a ten-year battle with opioid addiction. Before that, I tried methadone, rehab, AA, NA, 'Marijuana Maintenance Program', white-knuckling it, and tapering on my own. Nothing I tried worked until I was at yet another bottom. My grandmother drove me to a doctor she knows, and I've been sober ever since. The point I would like to make is that the first year and a half I was clean but miserable. The thing that has changed is that I've gotten into a 12-step program with A.A., and now instead of just being clean and sober, I'm happy and recovering. Anyone who takes this route of getting their lives back together, therapy, and Rx works, but only for a while. When that doesn't work, try A.A. GOOD LUCK."

"I was on Subutex for 3 years because Suboxone gives me migraines. I was an IV heroin addict for 6 years before starting Subutex. In 3 years, I had zero cravings, got my life together, and had a beautiful son who experienced minimal withdrawal symptoms after being born. Subutex changed my life. The only negative side effects were a lack of sex drive and constipation. I weaned from 16 mg to 0.25 mg in about 5 months. I stopped taking Subutex 18 days ago. Withdrawal symptoms didn't start until day 7. Withdrawal was minimal after tapering so low. I am experiencing some depression now, but the cravings are nonexistent still. Subutex gave me the clean time I needed to stay clean after Subutex. I would recommend this medication to anyone trying to stop taking opioids or heroin. Many of my friends from addiction are now functional adults as well. Subutex and Suboxone are miracle medications."

"I'm so pleased to read so many comments that Subutex has saved people's lives because since being found unconscious from a massive overdose in a gutter and according to the paramedics, 5-10 minutes from death (which took 12 hours on an antidote machine to regain consciousness), I too can testify that Subutex has saved my life. Obviously, your circumstances and support network are also vital, however, Subutex is a miracle! I only wish we could respond to each other on here and converse in a therapeutic and helpful way to those who may be in a dire situation with addiction and feel they have no way out. TRUST ME PLEASE, with SUBUTEX YOU DO!! Addicts fear withdrawals from methadone far, far more than even heroin, but Subutex is totally different, has minimal side effects, and you can stay on it for years without it degrading your health. Subutex has enabled me so that I do not have to spend all day, every day obsessing about my next score and have focus and regain a taste for life and living."

"I've been on Subutex for 3 years. I take it for back pain resulting from a ruptured disc, 4 back surgeries, and then being diagnosed with degenerative disc disease. I also take it to avoid taking a boatload of opiates, which is what I was doing before. But I think this medicine has many more side effects than those listed. I have difficulty urinating, and my doctor agreed that it is a common complaint with Subutex and Suboxone. It dries my skin out, especially my hands. They look like sandpaper no matter what I do. The dermatologist has been stumped by this; nothing she suggests or prescribes helps, and she agrees that it is probably the Sub. Also, BIG problems with sensitive gums and dentures."

"I like that Subutex has taken my mind off getting high every day, but the only thing that sucks is I just had to go to the dentist for wisdom teeth and cannot get anything for pain, which sucks, but I got through it. Subutex does not help with pain for me, but at least it helps with cravings."

"I've used Subutex for 2 years for drug misuse. In this time, I have struggled with weight loss. I've tried eating differently to try to gain more weight. Now I have reduced myself to 2 ml of Subutex. Over this two-year period, I have found weight gaining. I have also noticed cold night sweats when in bed. I wake shivering and covered in cold sweats, the bed sheets have big damp patches on them. I have found them very good at keeping me drug-free."

"I have swapped from 30 mL of methadone to Subutex. I waited 30 hours and took the first dose. Although I haven't had bad withdrawals, I haven't been able to sleep for the last 4 days. I even relapsed and bought a 10 bag of this just to get to sleep. Back on a 12 mg dose of Subutex, so I really hope I stabilize and feel normal soon. I can't handle not sleeping."

"I have only just started using Suboxone/Subutex, and I have to say it works great for the cravings and the withdrawals. The only reason why I did not give it a 10 is because of the side effects. I had many side effects on the Suboxone, so my doctor moved me to the Subutex. The side effects have gone down except two. I have a problem falling asleep. I constantly pass out whenever I'm not focused on doing something. I'm standing in a company meeting, passing out and almost falling over, and driving is a challenge in its own. Secondly, it's causing stiffness in my muscles whenever I'm not moving for long periods of time. When I wake up at night or in the morning, I can't hardly move to roll over or get up. Other than these problems, it is great!"

"Several years ago, I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease, and long story short, I got hooked on painkillers. Anyway, I decided that I hated being dependent on the pills, mainly was just on Vicodin. I've been on Subutex for a few years now and have little to no side effects other than I get hot very fast. I want to add something important. I used to take maybe 3-4 Vicodins 3 times a day. Sometimes a little bit more (like 1 or 2). I was so desperate for relief because I was in withdrawal and was told about Suboxone."

"I had a 10-year addiction to Vicodin. I have been on Subutex for 6 years now without relapsing once. I almost lost everything in my life before Subutex. I have been back to normal life for 7 years, working, have my own place, a better mom, because I'm not on that constant hunt for opioids. I take my med faithfully every day."

"I've been on Suboxone since November 2009, it was the best thing that has ever happened to me. My boyfriend and I became addicted to painkillers together. I had only been taking them for about a year and a half, but my tolerance went through the roof. Last summer, I was taking about 20 pills a day, and I had enough, so I took myself to rehab, and I have been on Suboxone since. I couldn't believe this happened to me, but it can happen to anyone! Just recently, I found out I am pregnant and am very excited. I had the option of detoxing off of Suboxone or switching to Subutex. I wasn't sure, so my primary doctor told me Subutex. So, I chose Subutex, but I cannot stand the taste of it, and being sick every day due to the pregnancy makes it even worse to dissolve."

"I was addicted to heroin for 9 years. A year ago, I decided I had enough, so I started off with methadone. Slowly, I reduced it to 15 ml daily and then started Subutex. 6 mg failed. After only 4 months, I tapered down to 0.4. That is when they decided I was ready to stop, and I happily agreed because according to my doc, such small doses wouldn't affect me. The first day after taking the last tablet, I was okay. But the next day, I started feeling awful. I went back and explained that I had withdrawal symptoms. They told me I could go back on script but have to wait 10 days to see a doc (ridiculous). So, back on heroin to keep me going till then. Of course, I'm only smoking a really small amount. Worried though after 10 days I'll need methadone again. Does anyone know if I can go straight back on Subutex?"

"Have to agree with many others who have already commented. This medication saved my life. It is important to realize you have to really want to quit using for it to be successful. I had to make meetings a regular part of my life and leave all those behind who continue to abuse drugs. It was really difficult but a lot easier than the last couple of times I'd tried without Suboxone. When I started Suboxone, I'd spent 4 months without using but in complete misery. I was in a perpetual state of opiate withdrawal. I couldn't experience feelings anymore or sleep. My body couldn't even regulate its temperature anymore. After induction, I felt normal for the first time in many, many years. No more withdrawals or suicidal depression."
