"I was on Rexulti (Nov/Dec 2019) for 28 days. The first week I felt great, I had more energy, not staying in bed for 16 hours a day. My mood was back to being positive, more outgoing, and sarcastically funny. Then I began to feel very short-tempered and frustration that got stronger every day. My family was telling me I was acting and talking differently. I at one point sent an email to my brother saying if I ever won the lottery, I was going to hire someone to 'take care' of a few family members and that he didn't have to worry, he wasn't on my list. I would never talk like this. Another email from me to my psychiatrist earned me a surprise visit from the police to include a complimentary trip to the Crisis Center and then to a hospital for 48 hours. You have to be careful in the words you use in an attempt to be sarcastically funny - it would have been funny 20 years ago, but not in the world we live in today."

"I've started taking these along with Vybriid, and it works really well. Mood swings controlled, emotions controlled, no more feeling sad for any reason. Been taking 40 mg of Vybriid and 2 mg Rexulti, the combination is good. No side effects so far. I take them in the AM, both about 20 to 30 minutes apart from each other."

"If I could give this medication a 0, I would. My psychiatrist prescribed me a low dosage of Rexulti to help boost my 'regular' antidepressant. After beginning this medication, I felt paralyzed from my body to my increase in anxiety. I had no control of my motor skills, which was dangerous because while driving, my foot would tremor/bounce off of the gas and brake pedals. I couldn't move my hands or grasp things properly, and it absolutely terrified me after reviewing the side effects because motor movements were one of them, and it stated it might not be able to be reversed. I immediately ceased this medication, the craziness stopped, and I would never go near it again."

"I haven't really seen much in the way of adverse effects from actual users being reported online, though I have tried to find them. My experience, as I have been taking it for about 3 months, is that it has worsened my depression, made me extremely antisocial and withdrawn, and very easily agitated. I stopped it a few days ago and have experienced a slight improvement in those symptoms already. Please use caution when taking this, as there is very little information out there about this drug, or how it is affecting actual patients. I will not be taking this drug again."

"This is an intense drug. At first, it seemed to be working, I wasn’t prepared for the side effects. My depression seemed better. I had just moved when I first started it. Keep in mind, every medication works differently for people. I didn’t think to check the side effects until I had to, but I just wasn’t acting like me. The medication had enhanced my anxiety tenfold. The depersonalization and the intrusive thoughts had me to where it was all I could do to recollect myself. I had just moved, so I didn't have a regular doctor. The last few weeks I was on this medication were tough. I managed to get into a better place and now know a few reasons why I am strong. I wouldn’t recommend this medication to myself again. This medicine seems to have helped some people, and that’s great, depending on why you take it. Be careful, if you interact badly with it, be aware of your situation, be aware of the side effects, be aware of who you are in your heart, and be aware that therapy is a lot easier."

"Rexulti made me feel the best that I had in years. However, it made me want to eat myself to death, and I was left with permanent body movements. My legs can't be still, and my hands shake all of the time. Very frustrating."

"Been on this med for 5 weeks. First of all, the med definitely has helped my mood. I have been feeling mentally fantastic, like I had felt 10 years ago before being depressed. All cobwebs gone, thinking clearly and getting everything done and accomplished. Well, this is where the downfall starts. Can't stop moving until I am so tired I pass out. I do sleep well and through the night, but only seem to need less than 6 hours versus 8 in the past. Legs, feet, arms, and hands hurt. They tingle with numbness, feel heavy as bricks, weak and rubbery, and so swollen I can't hold anything or walk. I am picking up a deep cough and my throat is starting to feel closed up. It was nice to feel clear, happy, and not depressed for this time, but I need to walk."

"It started out pretty well. I was feeling great. I had an appetite. Within a few days, I felt my manic depression even out. Then, a few days later, I started not being able to sit still or concentrate. Three weeks later, I landed myself in a triage appointment at my doctor's because I was having so much anxiety I was sick and couldn’t see straight. The doc said I had an adverse reaction - akathisia, where you can’t sit still and you’re shaking constantly. This was abnormal because I already do that, but it was way worse. Now I’m on all sorts of meds to get me to calm back down until I can get into therapy. I would not recommend this to a person with anxiety."

"So far, I've been loving the way this med has affected my depression and anxiety! It's helping me function normally. Things have gotten a lot better since taking Rexulti, and I highly recommend it to anyone struggling with MDD. I can only hope it continues to work for me! I've had some minor side effects, but nothing terrible."

"I’ve been on several different mood stabilizers, and Rexulti has been, by far, the best for my mood. That being said, it has also made me gain a tremendous amount of weight in a short time-25 pounds in the first 2 months with no signs of slowing down. I’m on long-term disability, so I’m not very active. I go for walks and avoid fast foods, but it doesn’t seem to matter. This drug is good and bad, hence, the 6 out of 10 rating."

"Can't say this med is helping after about 6 weeks. On 2 mg daily, went off my Effexor XR I was on for over 10 years. I take 200 mg Trazodone at bedtime and have for years and always slept fine. Nothing has helped the schizo or major depression in all my adult life. This Rexulti? I have not slept one night since starting it! I go to sleep, then wake up in like an hour or two and am wide awake until my alarm clock goes off in the morning. What scares me is that I am like a zombie. A very tired zombie. Ugh."

"I suffer from MDD, anxiety, and PTSD. I added Rexulti to my Lamictal 100 mg. I started at 0.5 mg and progressed to 2 mg. I had tried 15 different medications in the previous year, all with no effect, or I had adverse reactions. I noticed an immediate difference in my mood on Rexulti. It helped me go from completely non-functional to the ability to get out of bed, shower, do laundry, etc. Now the bad news. I was extremely restless and had trouble sitting still, I had vivid dreams and nightmares, I gained 15 lbs in two months, and the worst part is it gave me high blood sugar. I was not willing to add diabetes to my list of diagnoses, so I immediately discontinued this medication. I was disappointed this was the first medication that seemed to help."

"Self-hatred, lack of family interaction improved positively. Experiencing some side effects of restless, but I am aware of the period of time for the body to adapt. My family doctor is closely monitoring me."

"Started this medication about 4-5 weeks ago. I'm on 1 mg. It's an add-on to my Viibryd 60 mg and Bupropion SR 200 mg. This pill has really worked great for me. It's given me energy and the motivation I need to get stuff done. My family has noticed the difference. On the downside, I am restless, and it's given me a bit of insomnia. My doc told me we can solve that by taking the dose as soon as I wake up. I start that tomorrow am. It's also made me want to night binge-eat snacks more than ever. But I've learned my lesson with past medications and make sure never to have snacks available at home. So far so good. I'm making progress with my medication, psychiatrist, and psychologist. I have hope."

"I started on Rexulti four months ago. I take 1.0 mg Rexulti along with 160 mg of Duloxetine. My first reaction was tremendous energy and a much better mood. The crying episodes have stopped completely. The energy level soon returned to normal, and now I am feeling very tired and fatigued. I generally fall asleep right away but awake at 3:00 a.m., just like clockwork. I stay in bed until 6:00 a.m. Weight gain has not been a problem, although I admit to feeling hungry all the time. The benefits of this drug far outweigh the negative symptoms. I also suffer from anxiety disorder, and Rexulti has helped with that as well. The cost of this drug is very high. Hopefully, as time goes on, it will come down. My doctor provides me with samples for now."

"I've been treatment-resistant for 12 years, ever since I had a motorcycle accident that resulted in a brain contusion. I was managing well before then. After 12 years of suffering, I was put on Rexulti. My depression is gone and I feel very motivated, which is all good. The downside is that I now have a temper that goes from 0 to 100 in a second. I'm very impatient with people and become very frustrated easily. My language has become worse than a sailor's, and my wife no longer believes that I love her. I don't want to go back to my old major depression, which would last for some time up to 2 years. I don't want to feel paralyzed again and sit around doing nothing all day. But I also don't want to hurt the people I love and sometimes wonder if I should just go back to being depressed. I'm so very confused. I find that I am fearful of certain things like going outside when it's dark or being alone for more than a few hours. I don't know what is worse."

"Rexulti has been a nightmare for me. I was prescribed 1 mg as an add-on to paroxetine 40 mg for drug-resistant depression, and I was so hoping it would work. The first few days were okay, but then I began to have side effects, including nausea, diarrhea, a stiff neck, and a horrendous feeling of inner tension akin to anxiety without the thoughts. Two weeks in, I decided the side effects were too overwhelming, and I stopped taking it. Unfortunately, Rexulti has a half-life of 4 days! So even though I have been off it for 8 days, the side effects continue. I hasten to add I am one of these individuals who tend to experience side effects, so it may be different for you. For me, Rexulti has been horrendous."

"I thought this was a 'miracle drug' for the first several months. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of reviews for long-term use. My advice is to stay far, far, far away from this long term. I thought this was it... until it made me suicidal and self-harm. I've never been in a place like that before that was quite so bad. I stopped taking it, and I'm feeling much better. Please be cautious using it long term."

"I have MDD and am on Vyvanse 60 mg, Trintellix 20 mg, just added Rexulti 1 mg today. I have not found anyone on this regimen. Most days, it was difficult to get out of bed. I could not focus on small tasks, lack of desire to do anything I once loved and enjoyed. Does anyone else take this regimen, and can you share your experience? Rexulti day 1, stay tuned."

"I was one of the first to try this new medication at my psychiatrist's office. I found it to have controlled my emotions. I wasn't crying for any little thing anymore. I noticed my appetite increased, I felt more lethargic, and I had sleep disturbances. I chose to discontinue use. It's been 4 days since I abruptly had to stop due to other reasons. I'm still experiencing insomnia."

"After a sudden crisis of anxiety and paranoia, very schizophrenic-like, I was admitted through ER to a high-security psych ward. Was discharged two weeks later with several anti-psychotic meds that enabled me to go home, where I have amazing family support. Struggled for 5.5 years, trying a host of different meds, none of which helped much, and many made me feel worse. 6-7 months ago, I began Rexulti, and after the first 2 weeks on 1 mg, noticing improvement, we increased to 2 mg, and within 2 days, I got my mental and emotional game back. My family could not believe the difference. It was no placebo, as we had all but given up on meds being helpful. I have gained 10 lbs of belly fat, but the trade-off has been well worth it. I'm far from sure the benefits will last, but it's been wonderful to become functional and more at peace again, so I can continue to identify and address the deeper psychological factors underpinning my challenges here."

"Have been taking for three weeks now and feel better than I have in years. Also take Wellbutrin, Viibryd, and Lamictal, they worked fairly well, but never felt 100%, and I recently started slipping into a very bad place. Doc reduced Wellbutrin from 450 mg/day to 150 mg a day and added 1 mg Rexulti. Only a few weeks, but noticing a huge difference. Only side effects so far are stomach upset (went away in a few days) and it really increased my appetite at first (great, just what I need), but seems to have leveled off. I take it at bedtime, so haven't had any problems with drowsiness."

"I give this medication a 1000/10. Rexulti has changed my life. I have MDD and panic disorder, and I’ve gone through bad insomnia spurts. I’ve been on it for about 5.5 years now, and I cannot explain how much it has changed my life around. I have done a lot of damage to my serotonin receptors, which has not allowed any medication that is serotonin-heavy to work. I’ve gone through trial and error with over 20 medications for my depression. My mood was never stable before Rexulti, my brain would go back and forth between super happy and sad every second. Rexulti has balanced my life entirely. I have tried going off of it to realize how much it helps me throughout my day. I’m very happy with the results!"

"At first, I thought this was the miracle drug. I felt incredible and felt like my old self again. I had motivation, I was able to get so much more done in a day! I didn't feel like a zombie. I was able to stop having to take a daily nap. After 2 weeks, my clothes didn't fit right. On week 4, I got on the scale. WHAT??? I gained 9 pounds. Clearly, I am quitting Rexulti ASAP."

"My doctor gave me a starter pack of Rexulti in lieu of my antidepressant (Viibryd). I am diagnosed with depression, bipolar, and anxiety. I was only on this for two days. The first day I was out of it, not clear-headed, out of body experience, I was speaking slow, slurring, forgetful, anxious. That night I was up all night, couldn’t sleep. Racing thoughts. Restless. The next day my mind felt foggy. That night I was out of body experience that I felt I was in a black hole. I had a panic attack, paranoia, hallucinations, racing heart. Never going on this again."
