Belimumab for Lupus "I'm in week 5 and I can tell a huge difference in my energy levels! I do have a sinus infection, but this could be due to the weather as it changes from summer to autumn. I'll be watching to see if they become frequent. Otherwise, I have hope that this will continue to help and get even better over time."

Belimumab for Lupus "I have been getting infusions of Benlysta for about 6 months. I haven't seen any difference in my lupus symptoms, except less severe rashes on my arms. I just contacted my Rheum. because I haven't started any other new drugs, but I have been having weird dreams consistently & exhaustion from lack of good night's sleep. He recommended I skip the next infusion for now."

Belimumab for Lupus "I was taking Benlysta for three years. I started with the infusion for about a year. Then I was put on the injection once a week. It does burn a lot the first 6 treatments, but then it eased up a lot. But about 7 months in taking the injectable Benlysta, my legs started to feel very weak and heavy. I told my rheumatologist. She told me to stop it for a few weeks. But I started back on Benlysta. I changed my rheumatologist and stopped taking the drug. But the leg weakness never left. My legs hurt all the time."

Belimumab for Lupus "Benlysta has completely changed my life. It’s been almost a year of treatments, and my quality of life is so much better than before. Initially, I was really scared to start the infusions, and I was very nervous about side effects. I still get fatigue, headache, and a bit of nausea for 2 days after my infusions now, but it’s so worth it in exchange for everything I’m able to do with ease now."

Belimumab for Lupus "I have spent 10 years from one doctor to another. Finally, I got a rheumatologist who is experienced with lupus at Marietta Memorial in Athens named Melissa Burris. I had nasty lesions all over my face and arms. She suggested I try Benlysta. Thank God, because after only 3 infusions, my skin is amazing. Now I find myself staring in the mirror a lot, admiring how smooth and nice my skin is. I no longer feel embarrassed to go out, and I feel so much better about myself."

For Lupus "It eventually gives me increased daytime energy, for which I am grateful, but simultaneously causes insomnia that I haven't been able to defeat despite trying many sleep aids. It is also giving me unusual nightmares, and I'm definitely gaining weight despite eating less than usual. I believe I've ruled out other factors that could be contributing to the weight increase and should point out that I'm in that 50-59 age bracket that showed weight gain in a clinical trial. Having gone off for 2 weeks and restarting, I'm confident that it is also the reason for an increase in my autoinflammatory disease. Most concerning is I'm crying sporadically, and it's difficult to control. This went away during my break from Benlysta. Unfortunately, the side effects are outweighing the benefits so far."

For Lupus Erythematosus "It has changed my life. I have SLE which affects mostly my joints, skin, and energy levels. I have been on belimumab for nearly 2 years now and I am so much more functional. My lupus facial rash resolved and hasn’t returned. My joints still hurt in the morning and after sitting still for a while, but I am not seeing swelling and redness anymore. My fingers are permanently swollen but less sore than before. Most importantly, my labs have been normal for the past year, and my energy levels are so much better. I was receiving monthly infusions but I have just switched to the home autoinjector, which makes my life easier."

For Lupus "I have SLE lupus and Sjögren's syndrome and OA. Diagnosed in 2020, 15 years of living in pain no one seemed to know what it was. Was told from depression/stress to just old age. I’m 49! I took hydroxychloroquine, methotrexate, and felt like a guinea pig, neither of them worked, made me WORSE! So my new RA doctor said let’s try the autoinjector Benlysta. I took it last night in my belly, and I feel like I’m 30 again. I feel fabulous. One injection! I had a little spine back pain last night after the injection and it did make me groggy, took it that night for that reason. I only drink water, so I was already hydrated. But today, no inflammation, no muscle spasm, little to no joint pain, and energy which I haven’t had in 15 years. They say days 2 and 3 are worse or later on injections, but taking it day by day! First time autoinjector, this is what I did with little pain. Ice the area for 5 minutes or more till numb, wash hands, clean area, do not pull skin taut or pinch, inject, after injection place ice pack. BOOM!"
