Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine "I have narcolepsy, and I take 20 mg three times per day of quick release tabs. Mornings are great, but mid to late afternoon I tend to nap, and then take my last dose after the last nap. Adderall helps great for keeping me awake and alert."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine "Works wonders for me. I still occasionally have some daytime sleepiness, which I can handle with a quick 5-minute nap, but it has gotten rid of the cataplexy. I really had a problem with symptoms of cataplexy. If I laughed, got mad, or was emotional in any way, I would end up on the floor. I rarely have any of these symptoms now, which is a miracle for me. I do have two side effects: one is that I can become pretty irritable, and the second is that I get a bit more aroused."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine "I have been taking Adderall for now 5 months. This medication has completely changed my life. It is one of the most effective smart drugs out there. Adderall improves concentration and ability to focus on your work. I suffer from narcolepsy. I take 30 mg Adderall after a week. It works very well. I have personal experience with Adderall, it is absolutely great for me!"

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine "I was diagnosed as narcoleptic at the age of 50 following my diagnosis of sleep apnea. I first tried Provigil, and it was a game changer. I had spent the last 30+ years developing my own coping mechanisms to mitigate my EDS. After 6 weeks on Provigil, I experienced progressive allergic reactions to the drug and sadly had to quit taking it. When I reported this back to my sleep doctor, he put me on the time release 20 mg of Adderall. Love it!!!! I do get sleepy in the late afternoon... might need to take a second dose... will discuss with my doctor. My daughter was diagnosed with severe narcolepsy and cataplexy about three years ago. She also had Graves' disease. She recently had her thyroid removed and just started daytime meds."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine "I've been on Adderall for EDS and narcolepsy going on 10 years now. I feel my continued heavy use of Adderall will essentially kill me. All of your stories are completely familiar, and Adderall absolutely does all that's being said that it does. The reality, though, is that taking this drug at high doses over an extended number of years is shameful to many parts of the body. You become essentially the same as any meth user, this drug is simply a 'cleaner' form, if you will. The drug has rotted my teeth despite extra care taken, and I now have dentures. I'm not even 40 yet! It has caused numerous skin conditions, including adult acne, rashes, and a constant nagging itch (skin crawling feeling). Because of the itch, I have 'pick marks' all over."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine "I grew up taking Adderall since elementary school, but tapered off all medications shortly after reaching legal age. I was convinced that it was all in my head and that I simply had to learn to cope with life like a 'normal' person. However, when my inability to stay awake for a whole day continued to persist years later (and catching myself nodding off behind the wheel with a child in the back seat), I realized I couldn't let pride get in the way of treatment. I may still be drowsy throughout the day, but I can stay awake for more than a few hours at a time again. I can't say if or how Adderall affected my libido, having started taking it before puberty, but I am glad I am not bothered with urges more frequently than once or twice every few years. Ultimately, Adderall XR has saved my life in more ways than one. It may not completely prevent me from falling asleep while relaxing during downtime, but it does at least help me stay awake when I have something else to focus on."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine "I was diagnosed with idiopathic hypersomnia and ADD in May, and this was taken with Modafinil twice a day (10 mg). While Modafinil is a different story, Adderall has been wonderful for me. I take amphetamine salts, and those worked a lot better than the generic, dextroamp-Amphetamine. It's a nice boost in wakefulness, and it's changed my life being able to finally focus on daily activities and classes too. I'm quitting Modafinil because it interferes with my asthma and really screws with my heart rate, and will look into either 20 mg twice a day or maybe even Adderall XR. But the salts have worked great for my sister, and same for me!"

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine "Took methylphenidate SR (Ritalin sustained release) 100 mgs a day for years for major depression, was still tired, could still sleep at any time, but not too bad. Dr. retired, new Doc doesn't want to prescribe that, he switched the script to Adderall 90 mgs a day. Worked at first but not well, now it is worthless. I can hardly get out of bed, and it is almost impossible to stay awake all day. Did the sleep study a few weeks ago and was diagnosed with narcolepsy without cataplexy, prescribed Modafinil to take with the Adderall, a little better. In my case, the Adderall must go. Very good that it works for others, as no one wants to feel like they are sleeping their life away."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine "Thank goodness for Adderall, it has changed my life for the better. I take it for narcolepsy. I needed it. I was taking Ritalin, then the pharmacy changed brands from the yellow pills to blue, and they didn't work anymore. I take 20 MG daily."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine "I could not get out of bed without Adderall. I have been taking it since 2000. However, I developed a severe spinal disease, fibromyalgia, and arthritis. I had to give in to taking pain meds, which interfered with my Adderall dosage. I currently take 40 mg. I have found this dose ineffective for the past several years. My family doctor prescribes my meds and doesn't feel comfortable titrating up to 60 mg. I weigh 335 lb as well. I am frustrated and feel exhausted most of the day."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine "Able to make it through the day without becoming sluggish most of the time. Needed to cut back dose during light season, which impacts severity. Anxiety, impatience, frequent blood pressure increase becoming bothersome after 2 years. Not sure what to ask for."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine "I have used Adderall XR for almost 5 years for narcolepsy and find it to be most satisfactory. I still fall asleep on occasion, but feel the need ahead of time and can take a quick nap and wake fully refreshed. Adderall improved my libido but contributed to ED problems due to blood vessel constriction, resulting in the need for daily Cialis, which keeps everything in balance."

"I've been on Adderall 20 mg 3× a day for over 10 years from secondary narcolepsy due to a TBI. I will only take Teva, there are plenty of generics that don't work and are less than a 10% out of 100%. I got these, I think Mallinckrodt U30 on it. I tried returning it after taking 3 and falling asleep, they wouldn't return, so I took about 7 more just to get home from the pharmacy, a 1-hour drive, without passing out. It did nothing. If I took 4 Teva, I'd bounce off the walls, won't sleep for at least 1 day. I will never again take anything besides the Teva after sleeping for the remainder of the month. I wish I could afford the brand name. Don't listen to any pharmacist, generics aren't close. I can't believe they get away with saying they're the same as the brand, lol, the body doesn't lie. Scumbags looking for profit, do not caring who suffers."

"I have been on generic Adderall (dextroamphetamine-amphetamine) for about a year and a half. I have always got the Teva brand with no issues. But in the last couple of months, I have noticed it not working as well. I just filled my script last week, and they are even worse! I keep dozing off at work and back to taking naps in my car on lunch again. It's very frustrating! I take 30 mg twice a day for narcolepsy. Last month, during the shortage on 30 mg, my script was shorted by 9 pills. This time, the manufacturer was Alvogen, and they were amazing! Only time I came across this manufacturer. I wish my insurance would cover the brand name. They denied me even with my doctor's appeal."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine "In school, I could not focus and went through bad moments that I will never forget. Writing this, I can still picture all of those who made disgusting gestures because I would leave group projects halfway. Throughout high school, I was on the verge of failing. Although my commitment and dedication to reach the dream of going to college kept me strong."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine "I have been taking generic Adderall for many years and have never had any problems until I started taking the Lannett generic. It does not seem at all to be working, and it actually makes me drowsy. It also caused sores inside my mouth."

"I take my medication every day. I went and took my drug test today since I’m in a contract. Amphetamine was negative! I noticed several times that I was not getting any results after taking it. Mine is obvious because I pass out without a reason if I do not have medication to stimulate my brain to stay awake."

"This particular brand-Mylan-does not work on me. I didn't know why I kept falling asleep but learned each manufacturer uses different inert ingredients. I remember the orange oval ones worked the best. Does anyone know which pharmaceutical company makes it so my pharmacy can order that one specifically for me? Thank you."

"I fall between fatigue and narcolepsy. I've been this way for about 15 years. Thought I was just a sleepy person. Then my doctor suggested I might have sleep apnea. So I went to a sleep specialist and had the test. Mild results (6x an hour). She put me on a C-PAP machine, and after a few months, there was no improvement in my EDS. First, there was Provigil, which made me fall asleep a few hours after taking. Then on to Nuvigil, which wasn't strong enough. Tried Ritalin next, and the crash was too severe. At my suggestion, the doctor prescribed dextroamphetamine salts, and it has helped immensely. No more falling asleep at traffic lights, at the office, or after work (no more strain on my marriage). I take 2x 30mg a day with zero side effects."

"I've been taking this med for awhile now. The pharmacy changed it to the very lowest cheap generic they bought and made a HUGE PROFIT ON THE CHEAP STUFF. My goodness, I didn't look at the bottle. I kept falling asleep while driving my kids to school, etc. I couldn't stay awake. 30 mg of the right med was helping me stay focused and alert for sure awake. CVS, Wal-Mart, etc. If you get your meds, please check and see if you got the ones your doctor prescribed. It didn't dawn on me for about a month. I thought I was overworking, but I wasn't. I was getting depressed and moody. I looked at the bottle and brought it back to the drug store and never went back. Take care, all you good people that have disorders. We can't help what we're dealing with. Peace and LOVE. Sharon."

"I am 27 years old. I've been on Adderall since I was 21. I was diagnosed with narcolepsy, cataplexy, sleep paralysis, sleep hallucinations, etc. I have such scary dreams, lose my muscle control, and fall asleep out of nowhere. After trying several things, Adderall was the ONLY thing that eased my symptoms. BUT it is hard to take as directed. And running out makes for a bad time. Running out throws me into more frequent and severe sleep fits. I also get prescribed hydrocodone. I don't promote people to take pain medicines, but Adderall does make my body/muscles tense and sore at times. So it takes the pain and edge off the negative symptoms of the Adderall. Dry mouth is also a negative symptom, but I'm used to it now."

"I was ready for the nut house when finally diagnosed with narcolepsy. I would need to take a 10-15 min nap every 45 min. I would start feeling like throwing up and fainting. I had lost my ability to function, think, or anything else. I could not drive, as I would nod out constantly within the first mile. I could not even do basic thought processes like addition/subtraction in my head. After the first dose, I felt immediately better. I could make it through a normal day without falling asleep. Even better, my thought process came back. I could figure things out, understand things, and I could drive without nodding out. I have been on this for a year. Same dosage, I stop for a day or two every 3 months as instructions say."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine "I'm from the UK, and it's called Elvanse, but it is the same medication. I first started on the lowest dose and worked my way up: 20mg, 30mg, 50mg, and then 70mg. For a long time, I was on 70mg, trying to figure out what works best for me to stay awake. And it did keep me awake for school, however, I was still very tired afterward and would often nap, so my doctors decided to start giving me sodium oxybate (Xyrem). Whilst on sodium oxybate, I lost a lot of weight, going from 10.6 stone (67kg) to 8.13 stone (51kg). This meant that the 70mg Elvanse I was taking was making my body work too well, and I kept getting a fast heart rate while resting. It was quite worrisome since I've never had symptoms like this before. My doctors have taken me down to 50mg, however, my heart rate still goes up for no reason. For example, today I was sitting at my computer with 60 bpm when my heart rate started going up to 132 bpm, which lasted for minutes. It's definitely something I am looking into, but I assume it's the stimulants."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine "I was recently diagnosed with narcolepsy in early 2019. I was started on Adderall, but it took about 6 months to get the regimen that worked for me. I was quite sick at the stomach for about 3 months with nausea and headaches. I take 30 mg at 9 a.m. and 10 mg at 1 p.m. Finally, it's working well to a certain degree. I still need at least two naps during the day and have most of my energy in the morning and early afternoon. Come 7-8 p.m., I'm literally exhausted. I realized how well the medication worked after I missed a dose. I wondered why I was yawning all day and barely able to stay awake. It was because I had forgotten to take my Adderall. Despite how well it works, I still seem to yawn almost constantly. I would not be able to get through the day without it. It's not a 100 percent fix, but I can function for most of the day using it. So, that's a plus for me."
