Amoxicillin / clavulanate "I started this medication 3 days ago. By the 2nd day, I had lots of diarrhea and gas. Still lingering, but has subsided a bit. And it is clearing up the sinus infection. Just make sure to have a toilet near you."

"Had post-nasal drip, sinus swelling, ear, and toothache diagnosed as a bacterial infection. I was skeptical, but I assume that doctors know what they're about. Initially, the swelling went down, but after a few days, I began to notice mild paranoia, nervousness, and headaches. After 7 days, it was hard for me to hold down food or sleep. My gut is swollen, and I am alternating between panic attacks and severe depression. I have missed more work due to the medication than I did for the sinus problems. I hope this abates soon after I'm done. 2 pills left, and I will never take this again unless I need it to save my life."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "Started on 100 mg of Augmentin for sinus infection. Cleared up sinuses well but had severe diarrhea. I wasn't concerned by this considering it's the common side effect, but I just took my last dose. Not four hours later, I threw up twice and had more bowel movements. This medication was not for me."

"I have my 5th sinus infection of the year (2017), which caused my eardrum to rupture. My doc prescribed me a 500 mg dose, twice a day. Antibiotics in general upset my stomach and should be taken with food, so I made sure to take it with a large meal. The one time I didn't was in a rush to get on the road for a trip, and I was nauseous the entire ride, but Tums helped a lot. The infection has cleared up quickly, and my ear is draining a lot less fluid out. This has been able to do what four other antibiotics haven't. Take with a full meal, and you will be feeling much better soon!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "I was prescribed Augmentin 875 mg 2 times a day for 10 days. I took it for 5 days, and it seemed to be working to clear up the sinus infection, but I had to stop taking it because it gave me the worst yeast infection I have ever had in my life. I read someone else's comments about their tongue swelling and having ulcers on it, thus, it is oral thrush or a yeast infection on the tongue. I had to take 7 days of Diflucan and eat plain yogurt to get rid of it. And I had to stop taking the Augmentin. I tried to start back taking it in halves, but the yeast infection in my mouth came back. So I had to get more plain yogurt with probiotics to get rid of it. I cannot take this medicine."

"This medication is terrible. It causes me to have very bad headaches while I feel like I'm having migraines, but it's caused by this medicine. I get terrible diarrhea, nausea, and I throw up. I just feel like garbage. I was told this will clear me up and make me feel better, but I feel way worse now. I have been on it for 3 days, and I have now decided to stop. Hopefully, I will feel better when this medicine is out of my system. Much love to all using it."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "I have a severe sinus infection and have been taking Augmentin. I have been getting hip and back pains. My stomach feels tight and rotten. Constipation started right away. Started drinking beer to relieve my stomach, works so far, but yeah, this is potent stuff, and I am not recommending it - just saying what I have done. But, hey, my sinus problems are diminishing..."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "I was diagnosed 7 days ago with a sinus and ear infection. I had vertigo, terrible throat pain, exhausted. After about two days of Augmentin, the pain went away, and I started feeling better. I’m no longer dizzy, having throat and sinus pain or draining in my ear. However, I decided to stop 4 days short of my 10-day course because I’m having AWFUL side effects. Worst abdominal pain ever, constipation, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, back, hip, and leg pain. This doesn’t seem normal. Hoping my sinuses and ear are healed enough, or I’ll be back to the doctor for a different medication."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "This drug was the worst. I'm still recovering. Started taking this on 12/28 for SI. I take daily probiotics and increased them since I expected some stomach upset. At first, not so bad but by Friday 12/30, the yeast infection from hell reared its ugly head. I had Diflucan on standby just in case and took it 12/31 and stopped Augmentin altogether. Nothing, and normally it's hours when I feel relief. I had to get Monistat 1 on New Year's to help fight it. Just got relief as of 1/4. Digestive still not normal. Never again. Unless my life depends on it."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "Having new medication anxiety, a sensitive stomach, acid reflux, and an irrational fear of diarrhea and vomiting made me terrified of taking this medication after reading a lot of these reviews. But! The key here is food. Avoid anything that upsets your guts. Eat something right before taking the pill and eat a probiotics yogurt 2-3 hours after taking the pill. This will help with an angry tummy and also help prevent yeast infections caused by antibiotics, ladies. Don’t skip a meal and snack on crackers or the likes throughout the day. This med is bad if it is in an empty stomach. Coming from someone who has taken a lower dose of amoxicillin only and gotten the runs every time, with sticking to a strict regimen of never letting the gut be empty and eating the yogurt 2 hours after taking the pill, I’ve had no side effects and started feeling better on the 2nd day. Goodbye bacterial sinusitis."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "I’ve taken this antibiotic many times for my sinus infections, however, the last few times on this antibiotic I’ve reacted horribly. Not sure why I didn’t in the past. This antibiotic caused weakness and joint pain. My legs and arms are so sore, head fog, and pain in my head. It made me feel like I’m on another planet. Never will I ever take Augmentin again."

"I felt so awful. I was exhausted. I couldn't focus. I started having some kind of hallucinations, it has been the worst experience. My eyes were in pain. I started on the medication yesterday, and my symptoms are not completely gone, but I feel so much better already! Thank goodness my doctor knew what to give me."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "Had sinusitis for 3 weeks and got Augmentin for medication. I'm on my 3rd day now and thinking of stopping, as it gave me a severe headache. Couldn't do any work, just laying on the bed battling with it. Augmentin is good for most people, but not for me, though."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "Day 5, and my sinus congestion is as bad, if not worse. Had a fever on day 2, chronic headache despite drinking a gallon of water a day. Ruptured my eardrum day 2 blowing my nose after using the neti pot my doctor insisted I try (never again!). So now I’m not supposed to blow my nose. Every other antibiotic I’ve been on started clearing up my symptoms within 2 days. As a teacher, it’s next to impossible to be effective while sick like this. I have sinus and ear pain and tooth pain to contend with on top of lethargy and chronic headache. So for me, Augmentin has been ineffective. Never again."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "As a sufferer of many sinus and ear infections, I knew with this 90-degree heat in ACs with poor air quality that I was going to get sick. Got sick last Wednesday with sinus issues, got worse, so went to the primary. The doctor said she didn't think I had a sinus or ear infection, so she told me to continue on neti pots and Sudafed 24. She did give me a prescription if I wasn't feeling better by Monday (today). After a weekend of still feeling miserable, I got the prescription. Usually, I get amoxicillin, and when I looked at the script, it had amoxicillin clav, so I didn't think anything of it. I pick up the script. Take the pill on the way to work. Sick within an hour. Googled and found I was given the generic of Augmentin. Never again! Threw up for an hour straight - not worth it!"

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "I stopped taking mine this morning, with five doses remaining. The day I began the Augmentin, I experienced shortness of breath. I chalked that up to being sick. The next day of taking them, I noticed the insomnia. It was 3:30 a.m., and I thought it was 9 p.m. I was wide awake. The morning before last, I woke to find something that felt like pork fat sitting in my jaw. I pulled it out. The entire inside of my inner left cheek had peeled off and bled like mad. It is healing, but eating is miserable. The final straw was, at the time my cheek peeled, I started having a left-side facial tic and extreme tenderness beneath my jawbone on that side. I WON'T be taking this again."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "I was given this by an ER doctor for sinusitis. I took the first dose at the ER then didn't get a chance to fill the prescription for a week. Was still feeling a little bit of ear congestion from sinusitis, so I grabbed it. The first pharmacy dose gave me nonstop diarrhea and severe nausea, like my stomach was going to explode. So now, I drink probiotic yogurt with a full meal. Took it 2 more times, not as bad but constant anxiety. Had to stop, as I felt worse when taking it. Head congestion is pretty much gone, though I just decided to take Mucinex, and I feel like that has helped even though I'm still dealing with it a bit. Never taking it again."

"Sinus infections have controlled my life for about 3 years. After trying many antibiotics, a specialist had me try this antibiotic. I have used it 4 times, and it has always worked while also taking prednisone. Using steam as a decongestant has also been a big help. If you have a sinus infection, I highly recommend this drug. From reading the other reviews, I am fortunate to not have any side effects. So, use with caution the first time."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "I was on Augmentin for 6 days with virtually no results. I woke up on the 6th day with a severe headache and called the doctor for another prescription. Probably the worst side effect, though, was a severe upset stomach and constipation to the point where medicines for upset stomach and suppositories did not help."

Amoxicillin / clavulanate "First dose with dinner. Went to bed about 2 hrs later, woke suddenly, barely able to make it to the bathroom, began vomiting, then couldn't get off the floor, too weak. Began shaking, son called ambulance and next thing I remember was seeing my dad in a chair beside my bed in the ER. Was on fluids, Dr. came in and gave me Demerol. I went to sleep and don't remember leaving the hospital or going home. That was the entire experience. Never been so violently ill. Still have no idea why it made me so sick."

"I started taking Amox-Clav 875 mg for a mild sinus infection that was causing lots of pain in my sinus cavity by my right ear. I'm on day 4, and this is awful on my stomach. Nausea, bad taste in the back of my throat. I'm almost ready to stop taking it, don't know if I can take six more days of this, but the pain by my ear is FINALLY gone."

"The doctor was hesitant to prescribe an antibiotic since Kaiser is against them unless you are knocking on death's door. But after suffering pounding headaches for a month, terrible mucus in the back of my throat, and finally shortness of breath, the doctor agreed to prescribe Augmentin for sinusitis. I had an earache, constant violent sneezing, exhaustion, and head congestion that was only continuing to worsen. After TWO pills, I felt like I'd been reborn. I did wake up at 2 am with the worst heartburn of my life, though, and chewed at least 15 Tums, took 2 Pepcid AC with milk, and still my guts were on fire. Take this medication with food and probiotics at intervals."

"After suffering with a 3-month sinus infection and trying 3 lots of antibiotics, this is the only one that worked! Okay, I had a little upset stomach, but that’s a small price to pay. Note: I always made sure I took it every 8 hours after a meal and with a glass of water. I’m surprised by the bad reviews here, but as my doctor said, people don't take the time to do a positive review, so you don't often hear about the good ones! Amazing, cured me, so relieved and happy. I had one week's supply."

"I take amox-clav twice a day for an ear infection and sinusitis. I am on day 3 and so far, I have stopped coughing up green, chunky mucus, yay! The mucus alone caused me not to desire food, therefore, I have lost weight (before starting amox-clav). I know to take probiotics with penicillin, so I do not foresee a yeast infection as some have reported. I have experienced stomach grumbling and groans, but no diarrhea yet (plus, I haven't eaten in days, so I don't have anything in my stomach to get out). Amox-clav is doing its job. I'm not going to be a drama queen/crybaby about the side effects because this is penicillin, not baby aspirin we're taking, just saying."
