"First dose with dinner. Went to bed about 2 hrs later, woke suddenly, barely able to make it to the bathroom, began vomiting, then couldn't get off the floor, too weak. Began shaking, son called ambulance and next thing I remember was seeing my dad in a chair beside my bed in the ER. Was on fluids, Dr. came in and gave me Demerol. I went to sleep and don't remember leaving the hospital or going home. That was the entire experience. Never been so violently ill. Still have no idea why it made me so sick."

"I’ve taken this antibiotic many times for my sinus infections, however, the last few times on this antibiotic I’ve reacted horribly. Not sure why I didn’t in the past. This antibiotic caused weakness and joint pain. My legs and arms are so sore, head fog, and pain in my head. It made me feel like I’m on another planet. Never will I ever take Augmentin again."

"As a sufferer of many sinus and ear infections, I knew with this 90-degree heat in ACs with poor air quality that I was going to get sick. Got sick last Wednesday with sinus issues, got worse, so went to the primary. The doctor said she didn't think I had a sinus or ear infection, so she told me to continue on neti pots and Sudafed 24. She did give me a prescription if I wasn't feeling better by Monday (today). After a weekend of still feeling miserable, I got the prescription. Usually, I get amoxicillin, and when I looked at the script, it had amoxicillin clav, so I didn't think anything of it. I pick up the script. Take the pill on the way to work. Sick within an hour. Googled and found I was given the generic of Augmentin. Never again! Threw up for an hour straight - not worth it!"

"I stopped taking mine this morning, with five doses remaining. The day I began the Augmentin, I experienced shortness of breath. I chalked that up to being sick. The next day of taking them, I noticed the insomnia. It was 3:30 a.m., and I thought it was 9 p.m. I was wide awake. The morning before last, I woke to find something that felt like pork fat sitting in my jaw. I pulled it out. The entire inside of my inner left cheek had peeled off and bled like mad. It is healing, but eating is miserable. The final straw was, at the time my cheek peeled, I started having a left-side facial tic and extreme tenderness beneath my jawbone on that side. I WON'T be taking this again."

"I was on Augmentin for 6 days with virtually no results. I woke up on the 6th day with a severe headache and called the doctor for another prescription. Probably the worst side effect, though, was a severe upset stomach and constipation to the point where medicines for upset stomach and suppositories did not help."

"I was given this by an ER doctor for sinusitis. I took the first dose at the ER then didn't get a chance to fill the prescription for a week. Was still feeling a little bit of ear congestion from sinusitis, so I grabbed it. The first pharmacy dose gave me nonstop diarrhea and severe nausea, like my stomach was going to explode. So now, I drink probiotic yogurt with a full meal. Took it 2 more times, not as bad but constant anxiety. Had to stop, as I felt worse when taking it. Head congestion is pretty much gone, though I just decided to take Mucinex, and I feel like that has helped even though I'm still dealing with it a bit. Never taking it again."

"Sinuses started clearing after about two days, but my tongue began to swell a little. I also had tongue soreness and developed ulcers on my tongue as well. Chest tightness also occurred. I will never take this drug again, as this is the second time I've had a bad experience with it."

"I took Augmentin for sinusitis and have been taking it for 8 days, that makes it 16 tablets, and I still haven't noticed any side effects due to it. No diarrhea, no headache, and no other side effects that are usually described. In 8 days, my pain is reduced to 70%, as I now need only 1 painkiller tablet throughout the day (before this, I was taking it thrice a day). I'm also taking steam and using saline nasal drops."

"I am at the end of day 3 of the medication, and I can't do it anymore. The side effects are making life miserable, just in a different way than I started with. I went in because of the headache and congestion that would not respond to anything over the counter, plus vertigo. The vertigo went away after the first day of meds, but the headache is significantly worse. Additionally, my stomach hurts really bad and constantly feels like I have overeaten a massive amount all the time, whether I have eaten or not. I have also had some mild diarrhea. So not worth it for me!"

"Was put on this for an ear and sinus infection. By my second day, I was having bad stomach cramps, excessive bowel movements, some diarrhea, nausea, body aches, joint pain, fatigue, brain fog, nerve tingling in legs and feet, constant headache. Also, I began spotting on my second day, and it was one week before my period was due, this never happens. I spotted until my period started. I have three more days left, and I feel worse than I did before I started it. My ear isn’t completely better yet either, my sinuses have cleared up some but not all the way. I called my doctor, and he said he is hesitant to change my script as my infection was/is so bad, and asked that I just push through side effects. Never again!"

"I took this for 4 days, and now I’m seriously regretting it. I have serious diarrhea and the worst stomach pain and cramping imaginable. The severe diarrhea has meant 10-15 bowel movements per day. They have been pure liquid. I’m now on day 3 of the episodes, and the diarrhea is now about a 1 to 1 mix of blood and stool. My appetite is shot, and because of the pain and diarrhea, I’m afraid of eating. The stomach pain is so severe that I’ve been bedridden for the last 3 days. It’s so bothersome I’m not able to work from home while I’m off work. It’s kept me awake every night where I get 2-3 hours of sleep, and then the pain builds back up, which requires a pill for pain that I supplement with Tylenol. I’m waiting to hear back on the lab results from the stool sample I provided. There is a chance that my stomach chemistry is damaged to the point that I may have contracted an illness called C. diff, which will require a 3rd type of antibiotic."

"I started with an infection in my sinus that was mild. Then I got a bad nosebleed that was unrelated to the infection. I had to get one complete side of my nose packed all the way to the sinus cavity (uncomfortable). The doctor gave me Augmentin 875-125 for 2 weeks so no further infection ensued. Almost done with it now, and it worked extremely well for the infection. Like some have said, make sure that you have a restroom close by. It will make your gas pretty much unbearably crude."

"Took Augmentin for severe sinusitis. After 2 hours, started vomiting, it would not stop. Rushed to the medical center, given an injection to stop the vomiting, didn't work. Vomiting continued until only bile and blood was coming out. Then given Zofran wafers, finally, the vomiting subsided, but the stomach and chest pain continued all night. Worst experience :("

"I developed a sinus infection yearly (allergies?) and Augmentin is my go-to medicine. Takes three days at twice-a-day dosing to see results. I’m 71 and have had only antibiotics maybe ten times in my life. First time was PenVK, which was great medicine, but doctors don’t want to prescribe it nowadays."

"Was prescribed the 875 mg for 2 weeks for sinuses. I developed progressively bad nausea starting day 6. Yesterday, drank water when feeling like I'd throw up, and it helped. Couldn't get to any in time today and threw up for the first time in decades. Don't know if water would have prevented that. I do try to drink a lot of water while on it, but it is difficult when you feel so bloated. Nausea peaks around three hours after taking. I've never had any problems with medication before. Will try to persevere with 5 days left and also try to not be away from home at peak symptom time. If I need antibiotics again, I will certainly ask for something different."

"Prescribed 2000 mg spread over two tablets a day for sinusitis. Lasted 2 days on the medication and had to stop. Severe nausea and wretched general ill feeling, incredibly upset stomach with excessive bowel movements, to the point mucus was being passed. Thrush and exposure to further infection resulted. Doctor took me off them with immediate effect and being put on something else tomorrow."

"So today I started Augmentin, and I’m 18. After I took it, I felt lightheaded and very nauseous. Like so nauseous I was burping a lot. I haven’t made a bowel movement since I’ve taken it, so I don’t know if I have diarrhea. My stomach just hurts. Should I stop taking it?"

"Prescribed a 10-day round for sinus infection in February 2016. Immediately developed digestive issues, cramping, loose bowel movements, gas, and bloating. It is now 6 months later, and I am still battling the issues. Doctors first thought it was UC, but after a colonoscopy, now think IBD or IBS, maybe Celiac. I'm headed to the hospital for additional testing."

"Went to the ER two times with what later I learned was a severe sinus infection. My Dr. gave me Augmentin, and although much better after a week, it isn’t gone. I took it with yogurt and probiotics because the first couple of days I had cramping and diarrhea. That helped tremendously."

"So I was prescribed Augmentin on Friday to treat really bad sinuses, and the doctor told me not to start it until what would’ve been today, but when I went to the ER that night, they said that I should start Augmentin. I took my first dose, I didn’t see any differences, although I already had a fever and my heart rate was pretty high because I was fighting off an infection. My second dose kept me up all night long. My third dose made me sleepy and lethargic all yesterday. My fourth dose, I wasn’t feeling better or worse, but at one random point, I checked my heart rate, and it was 172, and my fiancé said that wasn’t right, and something about the app that I use was wrong. I didn’t feel it. So all weekend long, I had a horrible cough, and every time I would cough, my back would seize up, and I would be in excruciating pain. I attribute this to being on my couch, however, I do not believe that’s the case. My diarrhea has been pretty substantial."

"I had sinus for 6 months, didn't get the right doctor. A doctor in St. John's prescribed Augmentin 1g. It is strong, no doubt. For a day, little side effects. After that, nothing. Sinusitis disappeared. Had all sinus symptoms: eye burning, jaw pain, throat pain, when putting my head down, altogether pain. All went off. As per many patients, have more food to increase good bacteria."

"This is my experience with Augmentin. I have a history of severe anxiety and am generally sensitive to medications. I had a tooth extraction and bone graft but also ended up with ear and sinus pain. I was given Augmentin and figured I'd be fine. I took the first dose and was okay. The next morning, I had very loose stool and a bit elevated heart rate. The second dose in the evening, I had a horrible panic attack to the point where I nearly passed out/went to the hospital. The next morning, I took my dose and ended up with an awful panic attack again a few hours later. That's when I called my doctor and was told to switch to Amoxicillin. Everyone's body reacts differently. Definitely keep track of your symptoms, drink a lot of water, and rest!"

"For a case of chronic sinusitis, I was prescribed Augmentin. I took it for 10 days and had to stop, as it was really messing with my gut. The main symptom of my sinusitis was a foul smell that can best be described as an 'infected gym sock.' The Augmentin did nothing for this. About two years later, I was prescribed Keflex, and within two days, the nasty smell was gone. Unfortunately, I now have a 'sweet smell' and still suffer from not being able to smell most of the time. The sweet smell is much easier to live with, but I'll be going back to the doc to get a different prescription and hopefully can get rid of the sweet smell and restore my sense of smell."

"This medicine has been horrible for me. Ever since I started taking it, even with food, it’s felt as if I have a stomach virus. Next time the doctor prescribes this, I’m telling them I’m allergic because I’d rather have the damn sinus infection than this rubbish!"
