For Asthma, acute "this inhaler is supposed to be a rescue inhaler. But it is extremely dangerous because it probably is plugged when you might need it most. I was in my car when I had an attack and thank goodness I had an old one because this model was clogged and unable to rescue me!!!!!!!!!! It is horrible and could cause great harm!!!!"

For Asthma, Maintenance "This is absolutely the WORST inhaler I have ever used. I have tried several times over a period of several years and I always have the same terrible experience. The delivery system simple does not release the medicine for me. It takes several puffs before I can sense any medicine is even coming out. The pharmacy says it’s the same as Ventolin HFA but that has not been my experience ."

For Asthma, Maintenance "This delivers the medication in powder form in a more environmentally friendly way, but seems thus also to have diminished effectiveness. Cost is also creeping up over the last 24 months (now $43 per unit, roughly a 23% increase overall in 2 years). It is perhaps the best there is, but no substitute for the previous modes of delivery, and a marginal drug value."

For Asthma, acute "This pro air HFA is garbage. I have RA so I can’t get the lid off myself and I can’t compress it to use as it is for a very small hand. Those of us with useless hands are not compatible with this. It also costs more than my regular Ventolin inhaler."

For Asthma, Maintenance "Horrible and dangerous. Always clogs. I have had to suffer through many mild attacks because of this "rescue inhaler". Now, if the pharmacy gives me this, I just send it back and get the original brand"

For Asthma, acute "Like others on this page I have experienced the clogging issue. After ONLY A FEW puffs the device clogs. I called the company and they had me do a cleaning procedure which did help but having a life saving device clog so easily is unacceptable. They really need to fix this design. | I have NEVER had a problem with the TEVA brand (red with white cap) but the Perrigo brand is horrible."

For Asthma, Maintenance "This inhaler is the worst that I have used so far. My insurance will not cover Ventolin unless I try some other brands first. I had an attack the other day, and went to use it. It didn't work, which I take part of the blame because I hadn't primed it that week. I went ahead and used another inhaler and was able to get relief. Then I cleaned the proair inhaler with water, and tried to prime it , and it didn't help that much. It's just too weak. I am now trying another brand, and if that doesn't work I'm going to request Ventolin."

For Asthma, acute "Pro Air inhaler works but it clogs constantly. If you can rinse the plastic inhaler with hot water, shake it let it air dry and waste one does, it starts to work again. However, it is obvious that this can be dangerous. If the patient is in need of the medication and not near any hot water, it could cause a problem as you would not know that it's clogged until you try to use it."

For Asthma, acute "I like so many others here have had a very bad experience with pro air. I have bad allergies and so I will regularly need my inhaler when working. I used Ventolin for years, and it was great, no complaints, but like so many others, my insurance decided the be greedy and switched me over to ProAir. It tastes awful, first of all, always makes me gag, and second it causes my attacks to get worse! Supposedly my insurance covers it, but it is more than 3x that of any inhaler I've ever gotten! I've only had it for a couple months, but I will be very strongly requesting to my doctor and pharmacy that I go back to ventolin very soon."

For Asthma, Maintenance "After using proair products I always get a yeast infection - vs using Ventolin. It doesn't seem to have the same effect as other inhalers either. The regular doses coming out are less effective than from a Ventolin inhaler for me."

For Asthma, Maintenance "Every time my daughter & I use this about 40% through it starts malfunctioning and the medicine doesn't come out. Our insurance has forced use to get this & when we don't get the medicine we need, we get sick, but the insurance doesn't care. it is very frustrating."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I used three medications for my asthma but it seemed like they're not effective anymore. This medication was prescribed to me at the Urgent Clinic and I loved it. I can breath freely and I can walk or go upstairs without having to breath heavily and feeling tired. Was going to give 10 pts but the puffer clogs. I wish they could do something about it because it's kind of expensive. It really works for me and I don't suffer any side effect, thank God."

For Asthma, Maintenance "Do not rely on this product, it does not work and nothing comes out of the dispenser and all you do is waste pumps. My pharmacist tried to get it to work to no avail. I called the manufacturer, TEVA and their customer service rep told me to rinse it under warm water, nope still cannot dispense anything. This is my 4th. dispenser and they are all defective. I went back to using Ventolin which my insurance doesn't cover, but at least when I need a rescue inhaler, this one works. DO NOT BUY - terrible product."

For COPD, Acute "It is impossible to get the proper dose when you're not even sure that anything is coming out of it in the first place. It's not like other inhalers... there's no force of propellant behind each hit and if the counter weren't counting down you wouldn't think that anything came out of it at all. I am used to taking Ventolin: at least when I take it there's the sound of something rushing out of it and I can feel it pass through my mouth on its way down to my airways! With Proair there's none of that... it's like a dead inhaler. There's no satisfaction there at all in knowing that I got the right dose or any dose at all."

For Asthma, acute "Insurance just switched me from Ventolin to this generic ProAir inhaler. This stuff is a joke and should be considered criminal to offer this as a solution for asthma attacks. My asthmatic wheezing puts out more air than this inhaler could ever hope to do. The puff itself is quieter than someone laughing at a bad joke, exhaling out their nose. At least that person can breathe, unlike anyone using this inhaler. I'm sure this review is going nowhere, but I'm guessing whoever put this product out never had asthma or ever heard of it. Insurance companies are already awful, but to force this option and not cover something that works is ridiculous."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I am 54 years old and been an asthmatic for 50 years , have been through many many steroidal and rescue inhalers. I have been put on Pro- Air off and on when changing insurances and for an asthma attack it is the worse, with no relief and actually making shortness of breath worse. Ventolin works for me. Why you should one have to fight the Insurance company for what is best for oneself is unacceptable."

For Bronchiectasis "I was diagnosed with bronchitis after one nurse said oh you just have a head cold. This went on for a week and I got worse and finally went to urgent care and the PA told me you have a bad case of bronchitis. He put me on a Zpack, prednisone, the proair inhaler and a non-narcotic cough medicine. I have finished the Zpack and prednisone but still take the cough syrup at night and use the inhaler during coughing attacks which are less frequent. I was so bad the first 3 days of Bronchitis I coughed constantly and took Robitussin around the clock every 6 hours and it did not help. I could not sleep as my coughing woke me up constantly thru the night . I work in cubicles, 4 per cubicle. One lady coughed constantly for a week and a half. 2 weeks later I was sick. The following week our 3rd cubicle mate was out for a week. We found out 2 people had pneumonia. I live in Utah where we have an inversion every winter (pollution hanging over the valley making people sick)."

For Asthma, acute "The medicine itself works but the container used does not after so many uses. There is not a specific amount of uses before the container stops dispensing the medication. I've experienced when I took it out of the box and didn't work and halfway through the counter etc."

For Asthma, acute "I have used Ventolin, ProAir and Proventil for most of my life. ProAir is the only one that absolutely helps me during attacks and helps prevent them fairly well before work. The rest I need to use MUCH more frequently. Every inhaler clogs. Even the maintenance inhalers. Like that one person said somewhere in these reviews “warm water” and “shake it” while it’s in the warm water works really well to unclog, then let air dry on a window sill or somewhere similar. Don't use it again til it is completely dry."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I've been using ProAir HFA on and off throughout the course of maintenance for asthma. I fine it works well and it does get clogged from time to time, if that happens all you have to do is take the aerosol bottle out, locate where the small opening is at which the spray comes out of on the red container then run it under warm water, dry it some where in the sun and put the aerosol bottle back in and it's ready to use again - it does have to been dry before you use it. I keep an old clean one ready to go if my current one blocks"

For Asthma, acute "Just started using this one particularly, but every brand of MDI has similar issues people are complaining of here. I saw lots of reviews about it clogging and being useless. Just thought I'd recommend what I've learned to others to fix this problem. If you put warm/hot water in a cup and let it soak for a few seconds.. (I'll even shake it around in the water to help clean it) then dry it on a window sill or somewhere warm. You'll find that it will unclog the dispenser and is good as new (as long as it is dry before you use it again). Happy breathing. Xoxo."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I have been using ProAir HFA for many years now & I highly recommend it. It works when I need it & I don't have any bad side effects. Sometimes I get dry mouth after using it, but I can't complain since it does its job so well."

For Asthma, Maintenance "Apparently I’m not the only one who has experienced the disappointment of being forced to switch from Ventolin to Proair by insurance. I’ve used Ventolin since I was young for chronic asthma. I used to use Ventolin once a day. The Proair tastes disgusting and it actually makes my lungs feel worse immediately! It then works but then I feel like I have to use it again in a few hours. It’s making my lungs worse. I’m going to have to pay for Ventolin or somehow appeal to my insurance company to cover it."

For Asthma, acute "ProAir has never worked well for me. It is albuterol just like Ventolin HFA, etc. But, I have heard from many that ProAir is not as effective due to a different type of propellant in it. Now, to me this makes little sense. The reason why makes little sense is that IF the propellant that has been changd from the product is "part" of what helps the treatment of an asthma attack, it (the propellant) should not be replaced by a different propellant. The propellant that helps treat asthma SHOULD THAN be considered as an active ingredient that TREATS asthma. Since propellants have not been studied or claimed to be a treatment, it leads me to believe there is some OTHER unfounded reason for the ProAir not to work as well as other inhalers. Why? BECAUSE ProAir and many other "emergency" inhalers contain the same active ingredient; albuterol. I rate ProAir a 3-4 in effectiveness. I would rate other emergency inhalers that contain the same active ingredient, albuterol, as a 9-10."

For Asthma, Maintenance "I specifically asked my Dr. to switch me off of the Ventolin inhaler to the ProAir inhaler. The Ventolin inhaler seems like it does not give a big enough puff, whilst the ProAir inhaler gives me a smooth problem free puff without having to take a second one."
