"I was diagnosed in January this year. But I didn’t know I had it. I faintly remember years ago having a cut down there that hurt really bad. (I think that’s when I got infected.) I’ve been on the acyclovir medication for coming up on a year now. I still get outbreaks frequently. Nothing is working. I also have PCOS. I have HSV-1 and HSV-2, but never had an outbreak on my mouth. I’ll get little bumps on my nose."

"I found this medication to be very effective. I was diagnosed 12 months ago and experienced several very painful outbreaks in the first 8 months, 4 months in total. My doctor prescribed me this medication about four months ago, and it's worked fairly well. I still get slight itching from time to time, but nowhere near as bad as the outbreaks I get without it. My partner seems to get drowsy from this medication, but I don't get any side effects."

"5 years ago, I got blisters on my leg. I was misdiagnosed for years as the pharmacist thought I was bitten by insects. Fast forward, I went to the doctor who gave me acyclovir. In less than 12 hours, there was a huge change on my leg - no itching, redness reduced, and blisters slightly disappearing. I still don't know what I have been infected with. I am seeing the doctor next week for a check-up."

"I started using acyclovir 2 months ago. I had 9 separate mouth and tongue ulcers and anal herpes at that time. Presently, I have no anal issues. But I have two ulcers that just won't go away completely. What I believe to be HSV-2 colitis, that was diagnosed as plain ulcerative colitis, has improved after having an acute flare-up that has lasted several months."

"I have found this drug to be very effective in controlling my IBS/inflammatory bowel disease. Clearly, it's possible herpes has a role to play in these conditions."

"I was diagnosed with herpes 5 years ago, and my first outbreak was terrible. I could barely walk and cried the whole night in pain. I've been on acyclovir for about 4 years straight, as I was having outbreaks every single month. Sometimes, twice a month for an entire year. For the last 4 years, I think I've only had two small outbreaks. I'm not coming off this medication anytime soon, that's for sure! Although I'm still praying for a cure!"
