"I was prescribed this medication after returning to work 3 weeks after a moderate ankle sprain. I am alternating 800 mg of Motrin and 1000 mg of Tylenol every 6 hours around the clock, so basically I am taking something every 3 hours and icing/elevating my ankle when pain meds are due. It has been 2 months since my injury and I am still in severe pain, I have had to modify my work schedule, and I basically sit around doing as little as possible to rest. I am on my feet at work for 12 hours at a time, in a walking boot, which is also causing me lower back and hip pain. After I come home from work, I take 2 Tylenol #3, and it does nothing. I do not take pain medicine often, but this is providing 0 pain relief and makes me very nauseated."

"I was diagnosed with a missed miscarriage last week, but I had no external symptoms. I waited a week and still no bleeding. So my OB/GYN prescribed for me misoprostol (Cytotec), which induces contractions and therefore bleeding, etc. I was given Tylenol 3 to take to reduce the pain. I had excruciating pain from the contractions to the point that sometimes I could hardly move or talk. I took 400 Advil (Ibuprofen) and felt a little better. I know the Tylenol 3 had no effect on me because it didn't even make me sleepy, not even a bit. n.b. I don't drink, don't smoke, don't use drugs and therefore I don't believe I have tolerance to any narcotics. Regular Tylenol never works for my kind of pains anyway."

"My two front teeth were progressively getting worse in pain from two nights ago when I had hit my teeth really hard. 7/10 pain scale last night/this morning - to the point where no toothache remedies were working anymore, including OTC pain medicine (which never worked from the start). Was prescribed Tylenol 3 this morning from the dentist as we wait to do a root canal on one tooth, the other tooth may just be bruised as it shows no sign of a root canal needed. It has been 2 hours, and the medicine has extremely barely done anything. Waiting on doc to approve better medication."

"I am currently taking this medication for moderate pain reduction. I hurt my wrist by falling on concrete stairs. It does reduce the pain and works very well. The only downside is stomach upset, nausea, and extreme sleepiness. I do not have any kind of narcotic tolerance. This medicine is for minor to moderate relief of pain and should be used as such. This medicine, in my book, scores an 8 out of 10 points for managing moderate pain. Highly recommend."

"I have 'loose shoulders,' and my doctor prescribed this to me. I am 14, and it feels kind of weird as it is my first pain medication other than ibuprofen. It works rather quickly and subsides some pain, but not all. Also makes me drowsy, so I only take it at night."

"Post flat foot reconstruction. 14 wks. Post-surgery, I am still experiencing extreme, life-altering pain. Second day on this medication, showing no relief and must still put on my boot to help control the extreme pain. I have had a bout of hives, blisters, and rashes due to not being prescribed an effective nerve-blocking pain. My surgeon is allowing me to remain in brutal pain."

"I got one impacted wisdom tooth out and another regular tooth out, and I must say it doesn't help at all. Regular Tylenol usually doesn't help at all either. This stuff is useless, I'm still in agonizing pain."

"Post-abdominal hysterectomy with anterior and posterior repairs and bladder lift. I was prescribed Toradol 10 mg, scheduled every 6 hours, with Tylenol 3 every 4-6 hours as needed. As long as I don't go any longer than those minimum times, I do okay with about a 4 pain level. I haven't been pain-free yet, but I guess that's to be expected..... Tylenol 3 has worked okay, but does start to wear off towards the end of the 4 hours. I must wait.... It is a shame, though, that there is so much abuse of narcotic-strength drugs like Norco... they are extremely effective for post-surgical pain.... they are very addictive, and doctors don't even like prescribing them much anymore."

"Helped with the pain after getting 4 impacted wisdom teeth out, but only when taken with ibuprofen. Problem was, after about 2 days of a single pill every 3 hours or so, I vomited for another 2-3 days."

"Had 8 extractions today due to infection spreading through my jaw, as well as a dental fistula (popped abscess) drained in 2 different spots. Antibiotics, TEC 3, and Ketorolac Tromethamine 10 mg. So far, the TEC 3 has done well and kept me comfortable. Just happy I don't have to cuddle up to an ice pack to sleep now. Don't read too much, everyone reacts differently to meds, especially if they contain opioids."

"I fell on concrete, and they called it a chest wall contusion. Fractures don't always show up on x-ray. They gave me Tylenol 3 because if I wasn't moving, I had no pain. Well, it's been over a week, and I tried to work my physical labor job...PAIN!! This med hasn't helped me much except for sleep. However, I did wake up at times in pain. Too much Tylenol can do liver damage, so be careful not to take too much."

"I have a bad infection underneath my second molar. Never in my life have I felt that much pain ever. I was given Tylenol with Codeine #3 once the whole thing unfroze. What a piece of junk. I could have eaten a banana, gummy bears, or drunk a glass of milk, and it would have been the same result. Not even close to removing the pain. Why do they give this to people with searing dental pain?"

"Removed tonsil was very painful. By chance, I found that Tylenol #3 and aspirin combined to remove ALL pain. I take aspirin regularly, but it wears off in about 4 hrs. So my first T-3 acted in conjunction with the aspirin, then wore off. So I took another T-3 and nothing happened. I realized I needed another aspirin. I took another adult aspirin - the fire went away. Then I called my Dr. He said, 'We know that, but we don't rec it because aspirin causes some to bleed. You've been taking it a long time and you don't bleed.' Tylenol #3 will also stop a severe cough, where nothing else works, e.g., from bronchiectasis."

"I use this for my pancreatitis, NASH, and inflamed spleen. I have other health issues as well. Currently, this works far better than Vicodin or Darvocet. Those two did nothing for me with the pain, this at least takes the edge off, though. At times, it does make me sleepy and drowsy at work."

"Doesn’t really work. Had massive sinus infection with a blockage pushing on my dental nerves. I have never been in such horrible pain in my entire life. I wanted to bang my head on the floor and was prescribed these. Absolutely NOTHING. Worthless."

"Suffered a SAH (subarachnoid brain hemorrhage) 7 years ago and have been taking T-3's regularly in order to deal with post-incident headaches, which can be quite sudden onset, primarily due to exertion at work (lots of physical work in the agriculture sector). Headaches are caused by blood trapped in my cerebrospinal fluid until it can break down small enough to pass back through the membrane - xanthochromas. After taking this dosage of up to 6 tablets a day, I was quite concerned about my liver functionality, however, I just was tested pre-op for rotator surgery and was pleased to still have 97% functionality. Ask your doctor for a functionality test in order to make an informed decision before continuing its use, it may not be adverse for you."

"After I was discharged from intensive care, I reported no pain, and no painkillers were given previously. After being given Tylenol 3 in liquid form, I started to experience pain with an extra-large headache. The pain was in my eyes, temples, and ears, not to mention my throat. I got cold, and my legs started to shake. Then I experienced more swelling in my throat than before, but I thought that this was post-op normal. After the second dose, I started to panic quietly inside, and I couldn't get liquid Advil out of my mind! The nurse only had tablets, so my husband arrived and rushed me to the pharmacy to get some Children's liquid Advil, and 30 minutes later, I was pain-free! I'm not touching my prescription for Tylenol 3 and will tell the doc ASAP."

"I was prescribed Tylenol #3 following a wisdom tooth extraction on my right side. Unfortunately for me, Tylenol #3 did nothing for the pain unless I took 2 pills, even then, the discomfort never went away. Pain was excruciating, and the buzz/pain relief only lasted a couple of hours. Advil and an ice pack did a better job than this drug. If your doctor prescribes this to you following a surgical procedure/extraction, please try to request something better. I had my left side wisdom teeth extracted and was prescribed oxycodone by my previous surgeon. Pain was incredibly tolerable, and the recovery was a breeze! It's unfortunate that these new doctors are so scared to prescribe what these pills were designed for - real pain - not everyone is trying to catch a buzz."

"I was prescribed Tylenol with codeine for when my gallstones act up. Well, it does nothing for me. This last episode of pain woke me up out of my sleep, took my Tylenol with codeine, and 30 minutes later, no relief. To top it off, because I had no relief from the pain, I ended up puking...ugh! I'm better off with the ibuprofen 600 mg I have from the birth of my son."

"It dulled the edge of my tooth pain, but it does not take it away. I can’t lay down with the type of tooth pain I have, and it’s almost unbearable most of the day unless I’m carrying cold water in my mouth. This medication is a joke and makes me feel drunk and confused. On top of the fact, it plugs you up, it’s also caused me withdrawal when it wears off."

"I have chronic pain due to endometriosis, and trust me, not pleasant at all, but with this medication, it helps. It may not be as strong as I would like it to be, but I'm okay, it does something. I just don't want to rely on pain meds because of my daughter. However, in times of great overwhelming pain, I take one of these and an Ambien, and I'm out cold. Upside is I met my out-of-pocket and deductible, so it's free until the end of the year."

"I have been taking this medicine since 2017, and in 4-hour intervals, it really does help, and like people have said on here, we need our pain medicine. I was born with a prominent vertebra around T11 that is visibly posteriorly pushed outward. The pain gets bad in the morning and at the end of the day, my saving grace is the Tylenol 3. 100 tabs per month, the pharmacy considers it a 16-day supply, but I stretch the 100 tabs to a 30-day supply by taking them every 5 hours while I’m awake… totaling 3-4 per day."

"I take Tylenol 3 for tension migraines. For about 15 years, I took two pills, and they eliminated the pain within 30 minutes. Worked every time for 15 years, and only recently has effectiveness decreased. A couple of months ago, I had to increase my dosage to 3 pills to achieve the same result. I have talked to a lot of people, and they have said the same thing. I think they have changed the drugs in the pills now."

"I take Tylenol 3 for tension migraines. For about 5 years, I took two pills, and they eliminated the pain within 45-60 minutes. Worked every time for 5 years, and only recently has effectiveness decreased. A couple of months ago, I had to increase my dosage to 2.5 pills to achieve the same result. Tylenol 3 only works for my migraines. I recently had dental work done and had to take something stronger for the pain."
