SoCalBio's 11th Investor & Partnership Conference to Explore Post-Recession Funding Strategies for Life Science Firms

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jul 22, 2009 - The Southern California Biomedical Council (SoCalBio) – a member-supported trade association that serves biotech and medical device firms, research organizations and academic institutions throughout the Greater Los Angeles region - will hold its 11th Annual SoCalBio Investor & Partnership Conference on Thursday, September 17th, at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel.

The Conference is the only annual event of its kind in the Los Angeles region. The 45 companies selected to present are focused on a wide range of technologies and market segments, including regenerative medicine, therapeutic devices, bio-pharmaceuticals, molecular imaging, biosensors and personalized medicine.

The Conference will also feature keynote presentations and breakout sessions that engage investors, entrepreneurs and technologists in a discussion about how emerging companies can expedite capital formation in today's challenging economy, and how they can best position themselves when the economy rebounds. Specific topics will include alternative models for commercializing life-saving technologies, the dos and don'ts of partnership formation, and tapping government funding for life-science research.

“The old ways of raising capital and doing business are over for emerging life science firms,” said Allan Wolfe, M.D., formerly general partner at UV Partners and co-chair of the SoCalBio Investor & Partnership Conference. “Investors and entrepreneurs need to understand how a wide range of changes are affecting their industry.”
