Foundation for the National Institutes of Health Announces 2009 mHealth Summit

BETHESDA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jul 29, 2009 - The Foundation for NIH announces the mHealth Summit 2009. The mHealth Summit represents several important ˜firsts.' This two-day event, a public-private partnership of the Foundation for NIH, is being produced in partnership with the NIH, the premiere biomedical research institute in the U.S.

Other ˜firsts' underpin the mHealth Summit 2009:


  • It is the first Summit focused on exploring the partnership between biomedical research and the use of mobile technologies to improve public health.
  • Partners in the mHealth Summit are at the forefront of the fight for greater global health solutions, and this is the first time that this illustrious group will come together for this type of uncommon cross-discipline collaboration.
  • Hosted by the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health the summit partners include: National Institutes of Health, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, United Nations Foundation and Vodafone Foundation Technology Partnership and the World Bank.
  • The event is supported by partnering sponsor Microsoft Research and supporting sponsors the Abbott Fund, Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer. Additional sponsors to be added shortly.
  • The mHealth Summit will be preceded by a related program sponsored by the World Bank and focused more specifically on policy issues relating to mHealth. The theme will be “From Policy to Implementation.”

The mHealth Summit will bring together domestic and international researchers and policymakers with technology experts and visionaries to:


  • Build a bridge between clinical and biomedical researchers with mobile technology experts to identify mHealth solutions to public health challenges;
  • Foster integration of mobile and medical technology to improve delivery of health care to underserved populations;
  • Examine current policies regarding mobile health technologies and their use in reducing or eliminating domestic and global health disparities;
  • Discuss and craft a vision for the integration of biomedical research with mHealth technologies moving forward.
