Removal of Birth Control Implant

A birth control implant is a small device that releases hormones to prevent ovulation and pregnancy. The device is inserted under the skin on the inside of your non-dominant upper arm. It can be in place for up to 3 years before it needs to be removed or replaced.
DISCHARGE INSTRUCTIONS:
Seek care immediately if:
- Blood soaks through your bandage.
Contact your healthcare provider if:
- You have a fever or chills.
- Your implant removal site burns, tingles, or feels numb.
- Your implant removal site is red, swollen, or draining pus.
- You have questions or concerns about your procedure.
Care for your implant removal site:
You will be able to remove the top bandage 24 hours after your procedure. The second bandage may need to stay on for 3 to 5 days.
Follow up with your healthcare provider as directed:
Write down your questions so you remember to ask them during your visits.
