As with most sleep aids, you can build a tolerance to zolpidem and find yourself needing higher doses to fall asleep and stay asleep. Talk to your doctor, sometimes it helps to rotate medications every so often. Rotating is just changing to another medication/sleeping aid for a while, then when you change back to zolpidem, the regular dose may work better. I would also suggest that you consider some counseling, not because I think you are crazy but a good counselor can help you get to what is preventing your sleep and teach you ways to learn to relax and fall asleep naturally. Developing natural sleep patterns is soooo much better than relying on a sleep aid.
