I have been taking a 10mg zolpidem every night for a little over 5yrs,about a year ago i added 2 unisom's to my nightly routine as the Zolpidem no longer worked. My question is what kind of withdraws will I experience when I stop taking them? And how long will it take for them to be out of my system comepletely the 3 no longer work as I am still only getting about 4 hrs of sleep nightly. I don't want to add another OTC sleep-aid, please help me figure this out.
I'd say cut the dose of the zolpidem slowly. After you've stopped that, then try stopping the unisom. Once you've got that all out of your body, you can try to figure out what you need to sleep. Start with getting into the habit of good sleep hygiene. Have a regular bed time, mine has gotten so ingrained that a few minutes before its time to go to bed, my dogs will go to the bedroom door. no tv or computer 2 hrs before you want to sleep, have the room dark, even if you have to turn your alarm clock face down. Get exercise during the day. The other thing I had to learn was not to lay in bed and worry that I wouldn't sleep, its really self defeating it. If your partner snores, find a cure for that, lol. Have a glass of milk before bed, it doesn't have to be warm. Try white noise in the room. When you get into that, talk to your dr about something for sleep. I've taken amitriptyline for sleep for years.
