mainly on her face?
Hello Uff da! I would talk to her doctor. Its certainly not normal for her to be doing this to herself. Is it the Zoloft? Meaning causing this for her to be doing to herself. Difficult to say. But on the side of caution I'd talk to her doctor. I see on the sub heading that OCD is listed. Best regards, pledge
I did the same thing the whole time I was growing up. I was still doing it in my early 20's! Antidepressants didn't seem to help, and a few made it worse. I agree with Pledge about talking to the doctor. It's a habit that she can't always control. Most of the time I didn't even realise I was doing it. But, i have the scars to show for it now, and it WILL scar. You need to keep after her about it. Show her pictures of others online. She needs to understand what it's doing and she will regret it if she has scars by the time she learns to control it. Also, maybe you could try to help her find something to do with her hands. Even something like rubbing a ribbon, a smooth rock seemed to help me at times, or doodling. For me, it seemed like the worse my nerves were, the worse I did it. I have always had bad anxiety, I kinda think that's what starts it.
I am having the same problem with my daughter! She was picking a little before we started sertraline/Zoloft for her social anxiety but picking only got worse. Twice the doctor suggested a higher dose, and then a higher one still. Both times she picked more (both nose and one poor arm). Her therapist says its just a bad habit and drugs aren't going to stop it. Behavioral support/reminders/encouragement will. With those we've got the nose to stop but in turn the arm is a disaster. The school nurse suggested tattoo covers to protect her arm. If Liquid Band-aid doesn't work, then it's tattoo covers and off sertraline. I am trying Mendability and am going to see an herbalist. This is causing me stress: I can only imagine how she feels.
