Hi can someone help me with a question yesterday I went out and had 5 pints and today my anxiety has spiked through the roof I'm currently hiding in the loo at work to write this out . I thought I'd have a couple of beers instead of taking a diazepam as I here they work the same and as you know I've been on 2mg to 4mgs a day for a few months . Today as been awful could it be the Zoloft and alcohol mix or could it be that I have not taken a diazepam
Hi, i would definitely say you are suffering the after effects from the alcohol. You shouldn't mix alcohol with Zoloft, or at least if you do, you should drink very small amounts at irregular periods. The interactions checker says:
"Using sertraline together with ethanol can increase nervous system side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment... "
Alcohol will give you the same immediate feeling of calm and relaxation, but it does not work the same as Diazepam. When you drink alcohol, your sleep quality is poor (for just one example), you don't get a proper REM cycle, you just 'pass out', and often get hangovers the next day, which you shouldn't experience when taking Diazepam at prescribed doses. You will feel better as the day goes by, and you can take Diazepam again this evening.
