I've been on Zoloft since I was 5 years old and now I'm about to turn 20, am I still able to have kids after being on the medication for so long? Does it effect my abilities to conceive now or in the future?
Currently there isn’t any data to suggest that the anti-depressant Zoloft affects female fertility but one study did find that it had an effect on male fertility. Sperm exposed to Zoloft has increased DNA fragmentation compared to sperm that has never been exposed to anti-depressants. This may affect the ability of sperm to fertilize an egg.
It is always best to talk to your doctor about your specific risk while trying to conceive. If possible it would be best to discontinue Zoloft but only in consultation with your doctor.
