I have been given the option to have the Jetrea injective for a small macular hole. I am worried about this for several reasons. First, cannot find out how long these side effects last, even when I call the company! Second, I am concerned that this drug is so new. The way it was presented to me I almost feel like they are still in trial phase. Third I am worried about long term effects, ie something that might show up down the road. Would those who have had the shot tell me about their experience with side effects, the duration, have they resolved etc.? For those who had the shot 6-12 months ago, any issues? Thanks for the help!
Hi, I can tell you about my personal experience with the injection. I'm sure others are different. I also had a small macular hole. I had the injection in July of 2013. Initial side effect was a crazy swirling light show that lasted a couple of days but started subsiding after the first day. The macular hole did close and the adhesions I had were released. Other side effects I had included slightly yellowish appearance to things for a couple of months (not a big deal), one large floater which I still have, a dilated pupil that lasted a few months (no big deal other than it looked a little off). The biggest issue I have is that fluid was trapped under the hole when the hole closed. This has caused my central vision to be blurry and although my vision is better than it was with the macular hole, it is not great. The MD thought the fluid would absorb in a couple of months, but it hasn't as of yet. He still thinks it will absorb on it's own so we are checking it periodically. Other than the fluid, I have had no other issues that haven't resolved. Would I do it again? I think I would try it again as there was no guarantee that the surgery outcome would be any better. Hope this helps.
I am 72 hours out, if I could go back I would NOT have the injection! I can not see out of the injected eye, BOTH eyes are affected, also painful having to wear sunglasses in the house as I can not tolerate light at this point. Read all of the comments that people have posted. Had I read them I would have had surgery or in my case of not having a major issues I would have just waited for a bigger issue...
