I have been taking neurontin about 6 weeks after being diagnosed with periperal neuropathy. I am also type 2 diabetic. I have had Prostrate Cancer,treated with radiation and hormone therapy. It is in remission.my last PSA was :0.4. My last radiation treatment was June 15 of 2012
Hello bigboy. Yes, the neuropathy and nerve pain seldom heals. The nerves are damaged.
By keeping the diabetes tightly under control, reducing weight if you need to and exercising, you can control the pain better and will not create more damage. High blood sugars are one cause of neuropathy. It can be caused by high fevers and other factors as well.
Your physician can help you further with this. Karen
Unfortunately the periphial neiropathy will never go away or stop. If the Neurontin is working for you then definitely stay on it. The other option is-Lyrica so best of luck. Kathy
