Can you suddenly stop taking prilosec after being on it for a long time?

Yes, but you may find that your heartburn returns.

Prilosec is no long term cure. It will fix the heartburn as long as you are on it. A hockey buddy has had a very bad go - loss of sensation in in fingertips and other maladies. I have been on it for a long, I would estimate about 8 years and after reading up am concerned about the long term impact. I tried Previcid but no luck like Prilosec as soon as I stop taking it my heartburn is right there. Going to try Ranitidine... we'll see. Happy to chat on this if someone had some wisdom.
