I've heard once you take Seroquel for a certain amount of time you have to keep taking it for life. I can't sleep without it but I don't want to become dependent on it. Anybody have this problem?
You do not need to take it for life. Seroquel is a good med for bipolar and sleep. Like a lot of medications you must taper down slowly with seroquel with the help of your Dr. when and if you decide to stop taking it... I hope this info has helped?
No way for life. You can ween off. Took for five years couldnt afford of insurrance so i switched to lithiumgeneric at walmart for ten dollars amonth. Serequel slept great on too much sleep couldnt get up for work. I take adivan an before ambien same effect i personally feel benedryl does too. No dependency here. If its working keep going live free from the illness as long as you can. Good luck
NO... I took seroquel for a while..didnt really work. .I dropped it no problem..
Hi, it really depends on what you are taking it for. I take it because i have Borderline Personality Disorder. Because it helps me stay 'stable' i have no desire to discontinue treatment, neither does my doctor. I have already been taking it for over 2 years. However, if someone got to the stage when it was advisable to discontinue use, it can be done. Tapering off the medication with advice from your doctor shouldn't be a problem.
I feel alot better now, I didn't know you can be weaned off it. Is there another drug that I can ask the dr about? I hate being dependant on meds but I know it's nessessary. I'm supposed to take 600 mg at night and 300 mg in the morning but I couldn't handle such a big dose so I actually have been taking 300 mg at night and now it seems I have to take 300 mg and a half of another one. I never take it in the morning and I couldn't imagine doing it. I don't tell the dr. what I actually take but I know what works for me. As I get used to this dose I figure I'll have to take more and more to get me to sleep. So stressed out!
I take immediate release tablets, it takes about a hour to kick in. I don't really listen to my Dr. because he always asks me what I want to do with my meds and wants me to tell him what to do about them. I tell him if I knew I'd be the Dr. and how am I supposed to know what I need. I ask him to change my meds but he said he doesn't want to, he says he only prescribes the same ones and people don't need their meds changed. I wish I could change my Dr. but the program I'm in there's only him and I need to keep going there, I don't have the option to go anywhere else.
