I had to leave work because I couldn't walk today. This has been going on for over a year. I've done the exercises but nothing is happening. Hearing test was good. No ringing in ears. The dizziness seems to happen sometimes when I move my eyes also. Has anyone had this before, any suggestions would be appreciated.
What do you do when the room starts spinning?

Sounds like you have benign positional vertigo. I have had it for years! It's calcium deposit in your ear that gather up in a spot instead of moving around like it is supposed to. I am told! The thing that works for me is to sit on my bed and lie down the top half of my body to the right for 30 seconds. You will notice the room starts to move. Do not move until it stops. Sit back up for 30 seconds and lie down on the left for 30 seconds. Do this for about 3 to 4 times. If you feel sick do not continue. Your eyes do move quickly when you do this exercise so don't panic! This exercise helps with time.
No accident, I had pneumonia with a lot of coughing and was told I dislodged crystals in my ear. I have allergies and when they act up it seems as though my vertigo also does. Not sure if they are related? Sorry, I should have been more descriptive on the exercises, they are the type that are mentioned in the second response.
You have had vertigo for years? I can't imagine. I'm afraid to make plans because I don't know when I'm going to go into a tailspin. It happened while I was driving in a snowstorm. Horrible. Thanks for your responses.
