had procedure once and felt 100% better with my diarrea, thought I was imaging it sister is nurse and said no tell your doc
I am an RN for 29 years. I was recently diagnosed with SBS ( Short Bowel Syndrome) after extensive surgery for Appendix cancer ( over half of my small bowel, all of right colon, some of sigmoid colon, all female parts, gallbladder, and all of omentium were removed. You need a doctor to order the Octreotide. I inject 50mcg three times a day and it helps a little. It burns a lot when you inject it, but it will give me 2 hours that I don't need to run to the bathroom with diarrhea. It burns less if you inject it at room temperature instead of when it is cold.
I have been told that the doctor might order a higher dose at times. It is up to your doctor. There is also a long acting one that you only take monthly.
