I have suffered from MDD for 16 years. Currently going through a dark episode. I have been on Efexor 275mg, then lexapro 20mg and now Prozac 40mg. If anyone else suffers from MDD can you share how you manage this illness? :-(
I have suffered from depression since childhood. Not until my 30's was I put on medication. Have been on many just like you. Seems like every 5 or so years I have had to make a change. I manage my depression now with several medications and talk therapy. I have found both very helpful over the years. Other management tools I use include participating in a support group both in real life and online. Having someone to talk to that understands is of great benefit.
Gosh, I've taken quite a few. Zoloft (about 5 years),lexapro (3 years),Effexor (4 years), Pristiq(4years), wellbutrin(1year), cymbalta (5 years), Brintellex (2 months-stopped bc made me sick) They all worked in the beginning and then with time seemed to taper off so I'd go to a new med. I don't seem to respond as well the older I get. I don't know if I'm just not finding the right medication or its me. I hope that it's the medication. I most recently was on cymbalta for 5 years and thank the Lord I stopped that bc it completely changed me (a story in itself) then took the Brintellex which made me sick and I haven't take anything in 3 days and actually feel great. I have Effexor to try again but, haven't taken it since I've felt so good. After my experience with cymbalta I am scared to death to take another SNRI.
I also find that exercise helps me A LOT! It's very hard when you are in a bad place to get yourself to do it but, very helpful. Even a 10 minute walk is better than nothing:)
