I have been on this for ten years and wondered if there are any long term implications
Metyrapone is used for testing hypothalamus and pituitary function. Metyrapone is a diagnostic aid. It works by blocking the body's natural production of cortisol and corticosterone, which increases the production of corticotropin (ACTH). This helps to test the function of the hypothalamus and pituitary gland.
The link below states the known side effects of metyrapone ... I'm not sure if any of these are long term.
