They are saying on the news that 35 people have gotten fungal meningitis from steroid injections into their spine for pain. The medication came from a drug company in New England.
Yes, I read about it this morning on MedPage. They are thinking it has come from a fungus in the methylpredisolone used in the injections but they are also looking at asceptic techniques and also the anesthetics used. Pretty crazy! As in all procedures, nothing that is invasive should be done lightly. Infection is always listed as a possibility but in this day and age we expect our pharmaceuticals to be clean and pure but human error can happen. This is a common procedure done to thousands of people, across thousands of clinics and hospitals, every day. It is very unfortunate that it has lead to death for some. (so much preferable to do than to take opioids!~sarcasm inflected) How much do you want to bet these people got treated like drug seekers when they c/o headaches, pain and dizziness etc. after the procedures!? Ahhh dont get me started! lol
Hate 2 say it but I didn't here it, but I have now!! lol I hate watching the news, it's always sad to me, about someone getting killed or a child missing, u get my point... that's crazy, I will definitely have to read up on this one!! Thanks for the heads up!! kaismama
