Just hoping that everyone got a shot who can do so. Anyone on prednisone or other auto immune inhibitor drugs had better have done so. Lung diseases including asthma. Stay well, my friends and be careful. Long live soap and water! lol.
And if not, you can still help yourself by getting the flu shot now. They may be more difficult to find, but are available. There is a government site at www.flu.gov which gives you locations where they are still available.
If you have lung conditions or are older which means that you have a lower immune system, the flu can kill you and does kill many every year. Also children are more likely to die from the flu. Ever since I got a severe flu that had me sick as a dog for a full week and then very sick for over a month later, I've made it a point to get them every year.
No, but I'm thinking about it just because I go to the local gym and I have noticed how many macho-type men jump on and off of workout machines w/o the courtesy of at least wiping down the machine they just coughed, sneezed and sweated on. So yea, I'm considering it. I don't think I've ever had the flu and I'd like to keep it that way. Thanks for the reminder.
Every time i booked a appointment i got severly ill and ended up on Antibiotics. Then i have to cancel and re-arrange. Thats from November. I was ill again on New Years Eve, and again more Antiboitics, finally managed it Friday just gone, yes on the 11th Jan, so Flu shots are still available. Third time lucky they say, just as true.
EndlessPred, I have been a little unsure about whether or not I should get a flu shot. I know I have gotten them in the past but its been a long time. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you are not suppose to get a flu shot if you currently have any type of infection, is that right? I think that's why I have been hesitant to get it the past few years, because I constantly seem to have an infection of some sort. Also you mentioned that if you are taking auto immune inhibitor drugs that you should definitely get a flu shot. Is it possible that the shot can make you sick if your immune system is already weak? Thanks in advance for any info you can give me! :)
I am reading all these posts about the importance of getting a flu shot. I got a shot once in the early 90's and have never gotten one since. I am taking 10 mg. per day of Prednisone since August, which is when I was diagnosed with RA. I hardly ever get colds or the flu. I am a 50 year old female. Is it that important? I have an appt. with my Rheumatologist on Thursday.
Hi endlessPred, I don't normally get the flu shot. But the last few stays in the hospital made me get the flu shot for the first time since 2008, and the shot really didn't hurt at all. I didn't get any side affects from the shot like I did back in 2008, that one really hurt. But I guess for the few seconds of discomfort, it really is a good idea to get it this year. Plus I make any nurse who looks after me, and has a sniffle I make them where a mask. Otherwise they don't get to treat me. But it still amazes me how you get asked if you want the flu shot, you say no but the nurses really don't spend the time going into why you should really have the shot especially with all that is going on with me. You say no and that's it, take care everyone Liz.
