Must you eat prior to taking omeprazole?

I would take it wait 30 minutes to and hour, then eat after you take it.
"Take ONE tablet at night with water". It's on the box. (do not break tablets as they are enteric coated).
I've been taking them for 5 years and not always taken them after food. I often take one as soon as I wake up if I need it x

I've got to admit I'm pretty casual about taking them too but generally at night as I tend to throw up in the morning first thing If I'm going to. I get into trouble with my doctor who tells me which scripts are coming up and need refills and I have to say I have 1 repeat and most of a box just sitting there. It works; that's pretty much all I care about.
