What is the best way to talk to your doctor about fibromyalgia? What is usually the beginning treatment for it?
There are a number of drugs to treat it and some non drug things to. A fibromyalgia patient should try to get some form of exercise daily-walking and mild stretching. A mild analgesic may be used. If all the OTCs have not helped they may try something like Tramadol. Then there are medications that calm the over active nerves like Lyrica, Cymbalta, Savella, gabapentin among others. Sometimes something is given for sleep like amitriptyline or trazadone because fibromyalgia patients do not sleep well. There is a website-the National Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain Association that has good information on fibromyalgia, how it is diagnosed and what treatments are available.
