I started taking Xarelto 15mg twice a day on 7/23/16 and now on the 20mg once a day as of 8/11/16?for my leg I have several blood clots through out it. The swelling has gone down but not quit normal yet. How long does it normally take for it to be normal again? and also is it normal to have a late period? Im very nervous it is going to be heavy and want to prepare
Hi Lauren. I took xalreto for a DVT in my leg for nine months. Quit it one year ago when ultrasounds and blood work were normal. However, my leg still hurts and swells. Nothing like it did the first several months. I find it's better to stay active. I had a horrible menstrual cycle when I was first started the medication and then never have had another one since. But I was menopausal when I got the DVT so who knows??? I've learned that each body heals differently. Hang in there. It does get better.
I've been on Xarelto for maybe about 4 years. When I had a blood clot in my right leg they found that I have a genetic clotting condition called "Factor V (five) Leiden Deficiency" and according to my physicians, Xarelto or another similar agent is indicated for the rest of my life. So... I guess duration will vary pending specific use. Good luck in getting back to good health quickly.
The timeframe is anywhere from 3 months to 1 year. Since you have multiple clots it will probably take closer to a year. If you are not in pain from the clots or swelling, you can help speed up the healing process by walking or using a treadmill to walk at least two days a week for twenty or more minutes each day.
Do you know why or how you got the clots?
There is a lot of info out there, I found I spent hours reading these type of posts. Some helped, some just scared me. I was put on Xalerto over 3 weeks ago, now on the 20mg for a DVT. Since then, I had one period and it was on time. My normal heavy phase was a double the blood and triple the pieced, but same time length. But the light phase of my period went on for 2 extra days. I read horror stories on other websites, so I think you wont know how bad it will be until it happens. But remember if you are going though more than 1 pad every 2 hours to get to the hospital for help... or so other posts said.
I found the compression socks stopped the pain. I worked a full day!
