My doctor wants to start me on xanax and have me see a psychiatrist for anxiety. I've read a couple comments about it causing memory loss. How true is this?
I can only speak for my self but I have no memory problems at all with Xanax. I have been on it for 8+ yrs and it has helped my anxiety tremendously. I started out 1mg 3 time daily. Over time I did need more to keep me leveled out. I am up to 5 a day now. Even that sounds high to me, but all the pain doctors idea. He calls is "compassionate care" due to my over all medical situation. I do suggest starting at a low dose and raise as needed at the supervision of your doctor. I never once asked for more, it was always his idea. If you ask for more it is a red flag. Forget all the rumors and just pay attention to how your body is reacting and report any negative things to your doctor. It can be a big help, it has been for me. Best wishes, ChelleKay
