Kaismama is correct. Duragesic patches are Fentanyl. They do not contain morphine or any other drug other than Fentanyl which is a strong opioid pain reliever. I wouldnt take Xanax without the approval of the Dr who prescribes your Duragesic patches. Xanax can increase the liklihood of respiratory depression that all opioids can cause. Xanax and fentanyl are both CNS (central nervous system) depressants and taking them together can increase CNS effects like slow respirations (sometimes they can slow enough to stop the breathing altogether leading to death), and drowsiness, dizziness, and lack of coordination. If the Dr who prescribes the Duragesic says it is ok to mix the two then you will be ok, just be careful to stick to prescribed doses. Taking Xanax without your Drs approval can void a pain contract, if you have one, as Xanax is a controlled substance and most contracts insist that your pain doc approve any additional controlled substances that you take.
