I found out early this morning that a lady I have been dating for 6 months is taking xanax. She has periodically displayed severe mood swings and when we are on a date everything will be great and she is happy and then suddenly she will take somethinhg I say completely out of context and takes an attitude and ask to be dropped off and indicates that she will walk home. She and I click like we have with no other and I'd like to see this relationship grow. Essentially , I am head over heals in love with this woman and need to know what I can do to help.
Xanax - does this drug cause mood swings and similar types of symptoms?

after tshe walks home I will sometimes ait until the next day to call her and when I do she is so glad to hear from me and usually has a list of what went wrong. I do make sure she does get home safely when she does this walk home thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated
My Brother takes Xanax, and I can tell you that He also has these mood swings. One minute he is smiling and all happy. Then BAM He's gets all crazy on everyone. Then He'll go home and call the next day and say how sorry that He is. I could probaly tell you that your girlfriend is very lucky to have you. Stay with her and maybe talk her into seeing her Doctor. I think maybe She might need another kind of medicine. I have also talked my Brother into going to his Doctor. Which He did do. His Doctor has put him on another kind of medicine. I don't know what it is, but when I find out if it helps him I'll let you know. Good Luck!
If she is having mood swings, she may very well need a different drug or her doctor might just need to adjust her doseage. Unfortunately psych meds are not an exact science and it requires trial and error to find the right drug and the right doseage for each individual. I commend you on wanting to stay committed to the relationship; perhaps she will take your concerns into consideration and talk with her doctor. Good luck.
Gosh, I am really sorry you 2 guys have had loved ones have such bad reactions with the medication xanax. Could be the wrong med for both of them. Xanax usually calms a person, not turn them into godzilla! I have taken since 1994 at bedtime to help me relax enough to sleep. I have had to have small increases since I first began, but it does wonders to help one relax for sleep problems. It usually works anytime of the day to help stabilze moods for perple who have anxiety. Do they have anxiety issues, or are they taking it for recreational use? I would suggest you talk to the person about their actions when they aren't on the med, & tell them how they act to get some feedback on the what & whys. They may not realize how they act while on the medication. A doctors visit would be in order for this reaction. Just my thoughts...
I must say I agree with Mary. I have been on Xanax since 1994 when my Dad died, along with an antidepressant. I have always been "flighty and nervous" and have found that the Xanax helped me settle down much more. But again I take mine at night so I can sleep. If I am having an argument I find just a small sliver will settle me. I don't have mood swings, but my husband who is taking it along with OxyContin is up and down all over the place.
It may be the medicine,HOWEVER it sounds very much like she has PTSD.Do you know if she was abused (almost def by a man)??? The fact that she "misinterprets"things coming from you ("MISTER MAN")tells me she both LIKES YOU,and you probably remind her of someone (perhaps a father figure)that was not so nice to her!Even if it's SUBCONCIOUS,meaning she may not be aware!!! Seems she's very MUCH "ON GUARD",especially with you.Talk to her about it,but be VERY CAREFUL with your words.LET HER TALK AS MUCH OR AS LITTLE AS SHE WANTS! IN my 50 years I have been AMAZED by how many women have been sexually abused;esp.as children!!! Sickening and SAD,but true.Do NOT rush it;she DEF likes you,and your instincts about chemistry are CORRECT.PATIENCE!!!
