Xanax is a schedule 4 controlled drug. It is a benzodiazepine.

It depends on your definition of "narcotic" It is a scheduled controlled substance and can be subject to abuse. It is not related to opiates. It doesnt derive from alkaloids of the poppy either natural or synthetic. It is in the benzodiazepine family of drugs, not an opioid. Many people consider opioids to be "narcotics" and other people consider any controlled substance to be a "narcotic"

No, but they are benzos, and they are addictive, and they do show up in drug tests.
