normally xanax calms me down but today it is not working
Sometimes, we experience greater levels of anxiety than normal, or we may have symptoms of an actual panic attack and not realize it.
You didn't say much about how often you rely on the medicine to help you through your emergencies, but the way you phrase it ("usually"), it sounds like you use it often.
A few thoughts that you're not going to love. That medication isn't something to be taken regularly, it is what I would call a "rescue" med. If the medication is something you rely on regularly - and don't try to figure out ways to take the power back (it drives me crazy, too, but they'll say "learn to meditate," "turn off tv and computer lights an hour before bed," "find some way to distract yourself," BLAH BLAH BLAH (yes, I hate it, too!!! ), then we build lovely tolerance, or we rely on it so much that we take the medication and then we sit there going "I'm WAITING!!! Helloooo!!! " And nothing happens. It can make you crawl the walls; I've been there, too.
The answer, I promise you, is not to get a stronger strength prescription, or take more. We make ourselves slaves to this stuff, and it's liberating to be able to live without it. Exception: Boss needs to meet you at three and is giving you the stink-eye? Yep, time to pull out the bottle... because it is a rescue, not something you need to LIVE, to COPE, to go ON.
YOU are the master of THAT domain. Just breathe and try to push aside the frustration. Umm... without busted knuckles. ;) I promise, if you take it less, and use it as a rescue med, it WILL work for you.
If you do need to take something daily to help with anxiety and help you go to sleep, Klonazepam is a "stay in my system all the time so I'm chill" med that might work great for you. Maybe talk with your doctor?
Robert; Meggie is so right on this one!!!
There are many reason's that the Xanax well do this, They less you take the better for you I have gotten to the point my doctor has me on Clonazepam on a regular basic, And is also nice enough to let me have some Xanax that I keep a few in my watch pocket. And hold off until I really need it. Sometimes they work much better than others it depends on the degree of this anxiety attack. Are you taking anything else along with the Xanax.? Please feel free to post again some of the nicest people are right here that have problems just like you. Chuck1957
