To start off with, I had anorexia for 6 years combined with serious alcohol consumption. During the 6 years at my lowest weight (around 103) I felt some chest pain and it scared me so much I got back up to around 112 and it seemed to just go away. Fast forward to this year (I had anorexia through high school and half of college, I am now a senior in college.) I begin having blurry vision almost a year ago. Seen an ophthalmologist and everything and really no explanation was given except to try stop wearing contacts. Months later, still having blurry vision I began having chest pains that are sharp and in the left side of my chest. I broke my jaw in March and they eventually went away. Now 2 months ago they have returned worse than ever. Very deep stabbing pains and pain in my arm, armpit, and jaw. I am a 21 year old female and I am scared i messed my heart up due to anorexia. I've had 2 ekgs, a heart monitor, and a chest x ray that all came back normal but no one can tell me what is going on. My family has a history of heart disease and my cousin has tachycardia at a early age. My heart rate is naturally fast
I'm sorry you are experiencing all of this during a fun part of your life.
I give you credit for questioning if it's in your head. It's terrible to know something is wrong and tests come back negative.
Anorexia CAN have effects on your body after you are at a stabilized weight.
I'm assuming it was a cardiologist (as opposed to your Primary) that ordered the tests. If not, go to a cardiologist. If you did, get a second opinion.
If you find your needs are not being met then find a doctor that you have confidence in and "covers your back".
We have become complacent in accepting bad results. I'm not referring to a
Diagnosis but bad behavior, lack of empathy, etc.
"The customer is always right"...
We ARE paying for this care. I just left my Primary after 5 years :
- Her lack of computer skills caused her to make no eye contact with me the entire visit! Once the laptop closed, the visit was over. If you can't type and make eye contact then do it after the visit !
One visit stands out in my memory. I'm not one who cries. I had tears rolling down my face and she did not even know it!
She still doesn't .
-She missed a major complaint for a year that caused me to have major surgery.
Why? She was pissed I went to a specialist because the Lyrica wasn't working.
- My continued complaints were chalked up to anxiety! People with chronic pain DO get sick! They would be crazy if they did NOT have anxiety or depression!
So you get my rant ! Lol...
What stands out in my mind is Mitral Valve Prolapse.
It usually affects high energy young women such as yourself.
If you don't know about this condition, do NOT worry!
You need to take antibiotics before dental procedures. Nothing else besides seeing your doctor for monitoring like anyone else.
It DOES cause left sided chest pain.
Congratulations on your recovery from anorexia. I also had problems until my 30s.
I was married (again... 2nd time) at age 33 and weighed 103. If I weighed 106 I wasn't happy and 108 ... forget it! I was obese !
Age 35, I had the first of my 3 children. I don't know really what snapped me out of it, but being busy or maybe sacrificing my body for the joyfullness of motherhood was worth it!
Now I think of all the extra energy and time I wasted being consumed with a 2 lb weight gain.
Enjoy your life. Worry only when you have something to worry about.
I remember a saying...
"Don't trouble trouble until trouble troubles you"
Make an appointment, get your heart checked and go to school.
And have fun!
Best of luck and enjoy your life
