I had a hand operation and my surgeon said to leave the wound open to let the infection come out. my hand is really painful and and it keeps leaking is it spreading or getting worse
Hello Jakefinder, I'm sorry to hear about your hand. I just had a trigger thumb operation and I had to keep my hand covered with a soft cast and I couldn't even get it wet for 7 days. The fact that your hand is leaking is green and yellow and getting worse needs to be addressed as soon as possible. I would definitely call the dr. Immediately and I would definately go to a walk in clinic if there is not one open in your area then I wouldn't take a chance I would go to the emergency room. The pain should not be getting worse it should be getting better. The sign that this is spreading isn't a sign of your hand healing. Please take care of this asap if you have to go to the e.r. you will most likely be given an antibiotic and if Advil or whatever pain medicine you are taking is not working this would also need to be addressed. If you are worried about going over your doctors head, don't be this is your hand and your health! Also, if you have insurance look on the back of your card or your insurance brochure and see if the insurance company has a 24 hour nurse line. She can make note of this and also give you further guidance. The number for her can be found on line. If you have a primary care provider you can also call him. I would make these calls on my cell phone and leave your phone number for whomever you choose to call. Please don't wait! Sincerely, Reenie Good luck and I will follow your question to make sure you are ok,
