Alpha blockers do? I'm asking because I have PTSD and read Alpha blockers help with adrenalin surges but maybe something else can do that as well as help depression or mood stabilization
I was on Amitriptyline and it worked fairly well for my PTSD, I was also on Guanfacine. The only problem was it made me very sleepy, so I took them both at night. The Guanfacine helped with the symptoms of the adrenalin surges but did not stop them. I have not tried an Alpha blocker.
Let me know what you find out. Wishing you the best :)
What a coincidence that I came across your question! I have PTSD also, & my psychiatrist prescribed Prazosin yesterday due to continuing sleep problems. If you will ask your pharmacist to print out the 4/2012 Consumer Reports article about Prazosin, I think you will be very pleased at their findings... "the drug helps patients sleep longer and have fewer nightmares and awakenings. It also lessens the severity of other symptoms of PTSD, such as re-experiencing a traumatic event, avoiding certain experiences, or feeling hyper-aroused by them." I am in great hopes that this will happen for us both. Best of luck to you.
