... cant take this anymore, even with them I dont know if I can go on. I work and I need the help to get up in the morning and get moving. Please help me
Has he become afraid to prescribe them? I would find myself another pain management doctor. I know the struggle to go to work every day, and I know what it would be like if I didn't have the help of pain meds to do it. How can anyone lead a normal life when they hurt all the time. Unfortunately our government has decided the way to win the war on drugs is to make people suffer. Are you on cymbalta or savella, lyrica or gabapentin? These meds help alot in taking the edge off.
Lillypond, I used to live in Wyoming & completey understand your problem. I lived in Cody & Powell, & had to travel to Billings, MT for really good healthcare. the popluation just doesn't allow for good doctors to be in the State. They can't made enough money there. If fibro is your only diagnosis, & I will be geting some flack here, but I had it for years & years before it was even a diagnosis. A lot of what you are dealing with is something you can fight without narcotic pain relievers. I did it with a bad back too for over 25 years to raise my kids as a single mother. Eventually other bad diseases made me stop working & go on disabilitly. The first thing you need to do is learn all you can about this disease. Go to WebMD.com & type fibromyalgia into their seach box. They have a wonderful site about it, with everything you'll ever need to know, & what to do about it also.
I learned Yoga exercises to deal with mine, & just a strong constitutional, knowing I had to work to raise my kids. I actually qualified for disability long before I actually appled for it because of all my failed back surgery problems. You have to get it in your head that you can beat this or at least live with it without drugs! I don't know your age, but you have a life to live, & do that you must. Education is the first step, then seek out a rheumatologist to make sure you have the correct diagnosis. They are the correct doctors to see for fibromyalgia. Yes it hurts, but you have to push yourself thru the pain. Stretching is one good way, fresh air & sunshine is another by walking as much as you can. I hear all the time about doctors precribing all of these opiates & pain pills for fibromyalgia, & they just don't work! they may help you rest or sleep thru the pain, but it's not the answer. The pain doctors are getting pressure from the FDA & DEA for prescribing pain meds when they really are not needed, or even when they are because so many are ending up on the street. The doctors have to go back to school to learn new things to be able to prescribe opiate pain drugs. Some have opted to just stop prescribing them at all. In your case I can see why. You don't need opiate drugs for fibromyalgia. Yes, I know you are tired & hurt, but all the vicodin is going to do is make you more apt not to exercise away the pain. Massage, chiropratic, yoga, & other forms of stretching are better & will give you back your energy. Vicodin is just going to make you want to sleep away, & the pain is worse. Believe it or not this doctor is doing you a favor. If you are anywhere close to Billings, please try to find rheumatologist. You need to find something that will help put you into the correct sleep patterns to get REM sleep. Sometimes a low dose of Elavil will do the trick. If you don't get into the correct sleep patterns you will never feel better. I expect to get some flack about this from other members, but I am telling you the truth! Please go to the WebMD.com website & read, read, read! ...
