It was originally prescribed to treat fibromyalgia and found at the proper dose it also treated yet another disorder, ptsd and depression as im unable to take antidepressants, Ambien, has been a life saver for me. The generic form made by Tiva that has been prescribed does not work, so have been off the ambien now for 3 months. I appear to have relapsed but because its also listed as a withdrawl (depression) as well as my ptsd, and the reason I was taking it is not listed as one of its uses. Insurance is refusing to pay for nothing but the Tiva. How long and how much worse will these withdrawls be? Although what I'm experiencing is one of the reasons i remained on the medication as a treatment for. Please help. With each passing day I become less functional, any suggestions? Thank you. Diana Elledge
Withdrawl affects? Had been on ambien for 12 years nightly?

Thank you for your response. I have told the doc about this. I've changed states so he was unaware of all the things ambien was helping me with although he could see the difference in me while on it and off of it on two different occations. He has done what he can to try and get medicade to pay for the non generic as has the pharmacy. Unfortunately Im in a remote area and the Teva is all they can get besides the real thing. I am on xanax as well along with the ambien, again the combination of these mads were a life saver for me. Its a real struggle as my symptoms (illness) is also reported as the same as withdrawls. This being the reason medicade along with the FDA reports about long term use is refusing to pay. They did pay for the Apotex brand, which did work, but of course they no longer make it.
Id also like to mention that for 21 years my daughter and I have been disabled but not always on the same treatments. That when using a generic brand of medication U.S.A Tiva brands never worked and caused more harm then good. I am not the only one that has had the same complaint and even the pharmacies do not like the brand. The pharmacist recommended I obtain the better brand via the internet and that I could probably get it at a much cheaper cost but dont know who to trust (suppliers).
Also, I can imagine that I am one of the longest users of this medication and not for what it was intended for. I think my case would be of benefit for others that suffer with my disorders, what my side effects were while on it and now, actually 4 months off of it.
One more thing. I was told to go cold turkey off of the ambien can be dangerous and life threatening as is my illness. Am i past the life threatening part of not being on the ambien (with drawls)?
Thank you again for any help you can offer.
Sincerely
Diana...Chucks mom

you can call the doctor and tell them to call the insurance and tell them the brand doesnt work for you and you must have the other. also its strange a company wont pay for a different brand. if you ask the pharmacy to fill a specific brand (as long as its in stock) they shouldnt have a problem with it. annd yeah xanax or klonopin is usually something thats used to treat PTSD (and depression but i dont know how that works but theres studies to prove it) And benzos are also used as sleep aids so you can ask to be changed to a benzo if you would prefer. as for the withdrawals this is dangerous to cold turkey so i would get ahold of your doc and get something filled weither its a benzo or barbituate
