I take 2 10 mg vics every 4-5 hours. My husband uses mine from time to time so when I run out, I've gotten 80 mg oxy's that I split into fourths. My withdrawal symptoms from everything are HORRIBLE as far as the pain in my legs. They can't stand still. I don't sleep at all. How long does this typically last? I took a little bit of the oxy yesterday to get me through the day, but I know I can get through it. I just need to know how to get my pain in my legs to stop! It feels like the muscles are ripping from the bones! They also don't stand still even if I take sleeping pills or something similar, I'm a walking zombie because my legs won't stand still. Please help!
Het racing girl,
Have you thought about tapering off the opiates rather than going cold turkey? Have you run out and can't get any or do you have a prescription? The withdrawals can last several weeks though the worst of them will be over in around 10 days. There are medications such as Clonidine that can help with the restless leg and insomnia. It does require a presciption though. If you want to continue the cold turkey, try googling the Thomas recipe for opiate withdrawal. It is a list of mostly over the counter medicines to take while in withdrawals.
If you want to taper off the opiates, I would be happy to help come up with a taper schedule.
It concerns me that you are splitting OxyContin. The 80mg dose can only be from a timed release formula. It is a very dangerous practice to cut, split, chew or alter these pills in any way. You are defeating the time release mechanism therefore the dose within is released all at once and the amount of drug may not be consistent throughout the pill so even though you split into fourths that doesnt mean each piece will contain 20mg oxycodone. You could get some, none or all 80mg in one immediate shot, which could be fatal! Even though you are obviously opiate tolerant you are heading for a possible fatal overdose one day. Please stop splitting the pills and tell your Dr that the dose he has you on is not holding your pain. Have your husband get his own supply of the drug so you dont run out if the Vicodin works well and you would not run out if he wasnt using them. It is possible that you may need something stronger to hold your pain better or maybe a lower dose of a long acting drug like 20-40 mg OxyContin.
