This is going to be my first year with my fibro being so bad. Does it keep getten worse every year? How am i going to handle it? The pain is going from my back to arms and now my knees, no matter what way i lay, it hurts. some times i think i am to young for this, but i guess anyone can get it. For you out that have it, god bless, you are a strong person.
Hi Betty pa,
I have suffered from a form of chronic pain for 15+ years. Some doctors refer to it as fibromyalgia, some do not. My pain manifests itself as a severe sunburn on my back, shoulders, back of arms, back of legs and even in my groin area (which never is exposed to sunlight). I was finally prescribed M-Eslon capsules in 1999. The starting dose was 15mg every 12 hours. By January of 2008 I was up to 60mg every 12 hours. Such is the nature of narcotics - you get used to a dose and periodically my doctor had to increase my amount to get the same amount of relief.
Then, my doctor gave up his practice and moved away from town - a long way away! The new doctor I eventually found switched me to the Fentanyl patch (you can Google Fentanyl for info on it). I have been on the patch for 22 months now and still have pain.
To answer your question about does it get worse every year - for some it does, for others not so much. It is a strange phenomenon (syndrome as it's called). Bad weather makes my pain worse (low barometric pressure), good weather, like bright, sunny days are almost pain free. One of my sisters has chronic pain worse than mine. Hers started in 1973. I am 70, she is 69.
The best therapy you can indulge in is meeting with groups of people that share this common ground. Support from others is great medicine!
I wish you well. Know that you do not suffer alone!
Fibro. is a awful way to live. I one day saw a women that could not even sit because of the pain. I could had cried for her. She went back to see the doctor and about 45 min later she came of laughing and smiling. The doctor told me he gave her subutex for the pain. Maybe you might try this and if it helps half of much you will feel allot better.
